About the Role
Perform electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic repairs of underground coal mining equipment. Maintain underground equipment in permissible condition as defined by MSHA. Perform scheduled maintenance and complete reports and records as required. Perform other, non-maintenance tasks as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and repair underground coal mining equipment to ensure MSHA compliance.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and document reports and records.
- Troubleshoot from blueprints and service manuals.
- Operate, repair, and troubleshoot section and outby equipment, including continuous miners, battery haulage equipment, feeders, scoops, and roof bolters.
- Perform welding and fabrication tasks.
- Adhere to State and Federal mining regulations, including electrical permissibility.
- Work any assigned shift, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements
- Current MSHA electrical certification (high, medium, and low voltage, underground).
- One (1) year of underground coal mining experience.
- Underground miners license or face papers in the state where working.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Demonstrated welding and fabrication skills.
- Demonstrated skills in operating, repairing, and troubleshooting underground mining equipment.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for 4 to 8 hours on uneven, rocky surfaces.
- Ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.
- Ability to walk for up to 4 hours at a time in uneven and wet conditions through sections of the mine with varying clearance and headroom.
- Ability to don and wear a Self-Contained Self-Rescuer (SCSR) in compliance with MSHA evacuation plans.
- Ability to lift 50 to 70 pounds without mechanical assistance.
- Ability to bend or stoop for a full work period due to mine height.
- Ability to climb on and off equipment and ladders.
- Ability to work in damp, dimly lit, and confined work areas.
