Sr. Marine Geoscientist Project Manager
APTIM Environmental & Infrastructure LLC, a leading engineering and environmental firm with a thriving coastal engineering and resilience practice, is seeking a Senior Marine Geoscientist/Project Manager for our Tampa, FL office. This role involves overseeing marine geophysical and geotechnical survey projects, leading field teams, and managing data collection, processing, interpretation, and reporting efforts.
About the role
The successful candidate will serve as a senior technical leader and project manager, primarily office-based with some offshore survey participation. This position requires stepping into ongoing projects with minimal onboarding and leading multidisciplinary teams to produce engineering, geological, and geohazard deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Serve as Project Manager for marine geophysical and geotechnical survey projects of varying size and complexity.
- Lead project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution with minimal oversight.
- Act as primary point of contact for clients, ensuring clear communication and successful delivery.
- Manage project financials, including cost tracking, forecasting, and resource allocation.
- Coordinate with internal staff, field teams, subcontractors, and vessel providers.
- Provide leadership, direction, and support to offshore field teams and Party Chiefs during survey operations.
- Review daily field reports, production logs, and data quality metrics.
- Ensure field operations align with project objectives, technical and quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Participate in offshore operations for data collection shifts, and/or for project kickoff, troubleshooting, and/or critical milestones.
- Lead collection, processing, integration, and interpretation of geophysical datasets (sidescan sonar, sub-bottom profiler, boomer, magnetometer, etc.).
- Oversee integration of geotechnical data (vibracores, grab samples) with geophysical interpretations.
- Establish and enforce QA/QC procedures for data acquisition, processing, and deliverables.
- Perform senior-level technical review of data, maps, and reports to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Lead preparation and review of technical reports, charts, GIS products, and geohazard assessments.
- Ensure deliverables meet client specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
- Communicate complex technical findings clearly through written reports and presentations.
- Support proposal development, including scope definition, technical approach, and cost estimating.
- Contribute to business development and client engagement efforts.
- Provide technical input for project planning and survey design.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree (or higher) in geology, geophysics, geological oceanography, or related field of study.
- 7+ years of relevant marine geophysical experience.
- Strong technical and scientific writing skills.
- Experience with quality and efficient operation of geophysical survey systems (including chirp sub-bottom, boomer, sidescan sonar, magnetometer).
- Experience with geotechnical systems (including vibracores and grab samplers).
- Marine geophysical data interpretation experience using SonarWiz, Hypack, and Discover Acquisition or related software.
- Experience with ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and Surfer software is preferred.
- Experience mobilizing vessels for geophysical and geotechnical surveys.
- Works independently with minimal guidance and determines own work priorities.
- Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience and has expertise in own discipline.
- Applies knowledge and skills to a wide range of standard and nonstandard situations.
- Interprets customer needs, assesses requirements, and identifies solutions to nonstandard requests.
- Uses best practices and knowledge of internal/external business issues to improve products or services.

Pay
As of the date of this posting, the pay range for this position is $105K–125K per year. Compensation depends on several factors including experience, education, key skills, geographic location, client requirements, external market competitiveness, and internal equity.
