Our Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Managing Engineer with expertise in ADAS and/or AVs for our Vehicle Engineering Practice in Phoenix, AZ; Natick, MA; Atlanta, GA; Farmington Hills, MI; Menlo Park, CA; Irvine, CA; or Los Angeles, CA. In this role, you will work as part of a team executing consulting projects that involve the analysis and testing of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS); automated vehicles; vehicle, engine, and component performance; federal emissions and fuel economy testing; mechanical failures; safety assessments; federal and state regulations; and the design of consumer and industrial products.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects from initiation to completion
  • Communicate project updates to other team members, clients, and administrative staff
  • Ensure that Exponent meets its deadlines and produces exceptional work product
  • Identify business development opportunities
  • Develop and grow the Vehicle Engineering Practice by generating new business and projects
  • Develop and manage client relationships
  • Conduct project and cost management on casework
  • Set up and execute various test programs including full-scale vehicle tests and component or control systems evaluations
  • Continuously develop specialized expertise in the automotive field such as the design, performance, and testing of existing or emerging automotive technology
  • Manage, mentor, and provide consulting work for junior consulting staff

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a related field
  • 8+ years of work experience in ADAS, automated vehicles (AVs), and/or vehicle safety, vehicle and automotive system design, development, testing, and deployment
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required
  • Ability to leverage current client base and/or industry connections to generate new business and projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact with managers, engineers, non-technical personnel, and clients and present technical topics in a cogent and comprehensible manner
  • Strong leadership and communication skills and experience mentoring junior staff
  • Field and/or lab measurement experience with good hands-on skills
  • Versatile, team-oriented, willing to work overtime and travel when required
