Sr. Manager Supply Chain & Logistics
About the role
Blue Origin's supply chain organization manages a commercially oriented procurement portfolio spanning build-to-print hardware, build-to-specification components, COTS parts, and contract manufacturing partnerships - operating at the pace and discipline required to support high-mix, low-volume aerospace manufacturing at scale. This work is directly critical to on-time, on-budget delivery of Blue Origin's space vehicle programs across all facilities.
Responsibilities
- Own program-level supply chain performance for the organization’s commercial programs, including accountability for schedule, cost, and Material Estimate at Completion (EAC), with regular reporting to organization program leadership
- Mentor and develop a team of Supply Chain Professional Buyers, managing full lifecycle performance including hiring, goal-setting, and ongoing professional development aligned to the organization’s commercial program priorities and operational tempo
- Lead strategic sourcing and negotiation of Firm-Fixed Price (FFP) contracts and long-term agreements (LTAs) across the organization’s supplier base, including build-to-print manufacturers, build-to-specification suppliers, COTS vendors, and contract manufacturing partners
- Develop and maintain organization-specific procurement policies, procedures, templates, and digital tools to ensure best-in-class accuracy, compliance, and traceability across all commercial procurement activities
- Analyze material flow data, supplier performance metrics, and internal stakeholder feedback to identify root causes of gaps and implement targeted improvement strategies tailored to the organization’s commercial build-to-print and build-to-specification environments
- Lead supplier capacity management across the supply base - assessing capacity, tooling, and manufacturing readiness, modeling demand against supplier throughput, and securing capacity commitments to protect program build rates
- Drive industrialization of build-to-print and build-to-specification hardware - partnering with manufacturing and quality engineering on first article inspection (FAI), production readiness reviews, process capability, and rate ramp to mature suppliers from NPI to stable serial production
- Assess and govern supplier Technical Readiness Level (TRL) and Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL), establishing maturation roadmaps to close capability gaps ahead of production commitments
- Manage supplier internal schedules and milestones to program schedule - integrating supplier production plans into the master schedule and driving recovery actions when supplier milestones slip
- Ensure Supply Chain functions execute detailed plans to achieve program goals; proactively identify risks and deviations in performance metrics and implement mitigation strategies before they impact program milestones
- Communicate program status, risks, and opportunities through detailed reports and presentations tailored for organization leadership and cross-functional Blue Origin stakeholders, including Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related technical field, or higher
- Minimum 10 years of experience in procurement, supply chain management, or a related discipline within aerospace, defense, or advanced manufacturing — or a Master's degree in a related field with a minimum of 7 years of equivalent experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience directly managing procurement teams, including full lifecycle responsibilities such as hiring, performance management, and professional development
- Demonstrated experience managing commercial procurement for complex Bills of Materials (BOMs), including build-to-print hardware, build-to-specification components, COTS parts, and contract manufacturing partnerships under Firm-Fixed Price (FFP) contracts and long-term agreements (LTAs)
- Hands-on proficiency with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and advanced procurement digital tools applied to material estimating
Qualifications
- Experience with procurement for spacecraft systems, space-rated hardware, or commercial spaceflight programs, including familiarity with the quality, traceability, and reliability standards these programs demand
- Demonstrated experience structuring and managing long-term agreements (LTAs) with contract manufacturers and build-to-specification suppliers, including should-cost modeling, total cost of ownership analysis, and supplier performance governance
- Demonstrated ability to present complex procurement data and risk analysis to senior program or functional leadership stakeholders, including experience developing and delivering program-level briefings to senior management audiences
- Experience operating in high-mix, low-volume or commercially oriented manufacturing environments, with a track record of adapting FFP sourcing strategies to rapid iteration cycles and evolving build-to-specification requirements
- Demonstrated experience with manufacturing industrialization and supplier capacity planning - including production ramp, manufacturing readiness levels (MRLs), tooling and capacity assessments, and rate readiness for build-to-print and build-to-specification hardware
Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP/MRP systems
