Sr. Manager QA – Mainframe Modernization

Experience: 12–15 years Core Skills: Mainframe Testing, AWS, Python, Go, AI-Assisted Testing Simplify Recruiting is hiring for a senior QA leader to drive quality engineering for a mainframe-to-AWS modernization program. This role combines team leadership with hands-on technical work. You will analyze legacy application behavior, build automation, and validate that modernized cloud workloads deliver accurate and consistent results. Key ResponsibilitiesLead the QA team and own the test strategy across functional, regression, integration, performance, migration, and cutover testing.Analyze COBOL, JCL, PL/I, and copybooks to identify business rules, test scenarios, and expected results.Validate mainframe batch and online processing across z/OS, CICS, IMS, DB2, and VSAM.Design parallel testing to compare legacy and modernized system outputs, investigate differences, and document findings.Validate data migration to AWS through record counts, checksums, field-level reconciliation, and precision checks.Verify batch sequencing, scheduling dependencies, restart and recovery behavior, and processing windows.Build automated test frameworks using Python and supporting utilities in Go.Test APIs and web interfaces replacing legacy screens.Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and provide clear evidence for release and cutover decisions.Mentor QA engineers and promote effective, secure use of AI-assisted testing. Required QualificationsStrong software testing experience, including at least four years testing mainframe applications or data.Demonstrated ability to lead QA teams and own test strategy and delivery.Ability to read COBOL and JCL, with working knowledge of PL/I, copybooks, and EBCDIC-to-ASCII conversion.Hands-on experience with DB2 for z/OS, IMS DB/DC, VSAM, fixed-width files, and packed decimal formats such as COMP-3.Familiarity with CICS, TSO/ISPF, 3270 emulators, and CA-7 or Control-M.Strong Python automation skills, particularly pytest and pandas.Working proficiency in Go for test utilities, data validation, or reconciliation.Working knowledge of AWS services such as S3, Lambda, RDS/Aurora, DMS, IAM, and CloudWatch.Experience with parallel testing, migration validation, and batch equivalence testing.Strong SQL skills across DB2 and PostgreSQL.Experience with Git, Jira, and CI/CD pipelines.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. AI-Assisted TestingPractical experience using AI tools to understand legacy code, develop test scenarios, and accelerate automation is required. Candidates must independently validate AI-generated outputs and protect confidential and sensitive data when using these tools. Preferred QualificationsU.S. healthcare payer or health insurance experience, particularly claims, eligibility, or core administration systems.Familiarity with X12 EDI, HL7, or FHIR.Experience testing mainframe-to-cloud modernization or replatforming programs.Exposure to AWS Mainframe Modernization, AWS Transform, or similar tools.Familiarity with File-AID, Abend-AID, or comparable mainframe testing tools.Relevant ISTQB, AWS, or IBM mainframe certifications.
