About the role
The Senior Workday Payroll Tax and Accounting Manager will report to the Director of Payroll Operations. This position manages activity and direction of payroll tax and accounting staff, compliance and reporting for both the McKesson and US Oncology employees and legal entities. This role requires very strong analytical skills, experience working within Workday, management skills and the ability to work with multiple levels of management.
Responsibilities
- Covers the activities of the McKesson and USON Tax and Accounting teams. Develops work schedules and monitors workflow to ensure established deadlines for accounting, tax filing and reporting are achieved. Interacts daily with direct reports to monitor progress of assigned tasks. Establishes goals and objectives for the tax and accounting teams.
- Ensures compliance with company policies, procedures and internal controls. Develops, monitors and enforces policies, procedures, customer service and productivity standards. Ensures that updated Standard Operating Procedures and SLAs for each task of the teams are updated and communicated to employees. Ensures compliance with company policies, procedures and internal controls.
- Handles special projects and provides assistance across the functional payroll group.
- Develops employees through coaching and feedback, rewards and recognition. Identifies personal growth plans/opportunities for direct reports.
- Provides tax and accounting planning and compliance expertise to management to ensure that McKesson and USON remain compliant with federal, state and local regulations. Participates in PI planning with McKesson and USON teams to recommend and monitor new projects needed to achieve greater efficiency in the payroll tax and accounting areas. Assists in testing and roll out of these projects.
- Manages/coordinates with the USON Payroll Manager, the payroll tax processes for USON mergers and acquisitions. Assures proper tax treatment of acquired employees as well as setup of any new tax accounts required. Monitors first payrolls to verify accurate, timely payment of new employees.
- Responsible for managing SOX and internal accounting audits, negotiates/recommends settlement of any outstanding issues upon completion of audit.
Requirements
- 9+ years of professional experience and 3+ years of supervisory and/or management experience.
- Experienced, fully competent in all payroll, payroll tax (i.e. federal, state, local withholding, federal and state unemployment, etc.), and accounting, accruals and journal entries, variance and reconciliation.
- Detail oriented and highly analytical; ability to utilize data to make recommendations and drive action.
- Excellent professional communication skills in listening, verbalization and writing.
- Strong accounting and general ledger knowledge required.
- Payroll tax processing experience required.
- Multi-state payroll environment required.
Qualifications
- Advanced Knowledge of Workday Payroll system.
- Advanced Knowledge of ADP Tax Reporting system.
- Advanced Knowledge of SAP General Ledger system.
- Knowledge of Blackline.
Skills
