About the Role
The Sr. Manager, FP&A will play a crucial role in partnering closely with Accounting, Department Heads, and Senior Leadership while leading the annual budget, periodic forecasting, and cash flow management. This position requires a self-starter with attention to detail, financial acumen, and a desire to work in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of the annual financial planning process, including the development of robust revenue, expense, and cash forecast assumptions.
- Oversee the consolidated planning and forecasting cycles, providing scenario modeling and strategic input to support decision-making across the organization.
- Provide support in the consolidated monthly and quarterly close process by partnering with Accounting, ensuring timely, accurate variance analysis against budget, forecast, and prior periods.
- Continuously update and manage the cash flow model with reporting presented monthly to upper management.
- Responsible for monthly reporting of actuals and variance analysis to department leadership.
- Partner with department leadership to obtain business insights to be incorporated into the forecast.
- Present financial insights and actionable recommendations to senior leadership, enabling informed decisions to optimize growth, margins, and cash generation.
- Manage and maintain financial models and forecasts to support frequent business plan updates and analysis for the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
- Assist in the preparation of the monthly reporting package and financial analytics for senior management.
- Build an in-depth understanding of all lines of business and analyze key drivers for each to identify efficiencies and provide recommendations to improve results across departments.
- Complete debt reporting requirements on a quarterly basis.
- Ensure the timely preparation and submission of all MLS-specific reporting, including the annual MLS reporting package for the season.
- Build and maintain financial models to evaluate business initiatives, such as new sponsorship deals, stadium improvements, and player acquisitions.
- Perform ad hoc scenario analysis and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
- CPA certification preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in an FP&A environment, including reporting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
- Proven leadership skills with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Public accounting experience preferred.
- Sports and entertainment experience a plus.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards.
- Expertise in P&L and cash flow management, including consolidation, variance analysis, and performance tracking at both operational and executive levels.
- Proficiency in financial reporting systems (preferably NetSuite) and financial planning systems (preferably Vena).
- Proficiency working with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Passion for soccer and a good understanding of MLS operations is a plus.
- Detail-oriented and driven self-motivator with a strong work ethic to get the job done.
- Ability to analyze processes and procedures to make improvements.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently – both written and verbal.
- Ability to work productively and multi-task in an unstructured environment with frequent interruptions.
- Must have a flexible schedule with the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
