Sr Manager, Economics & Applied Science, AWS Central Econ and Science

About the role

The Senior Manager, Economics role is within the Sales Channels team at Amazon Web Services (AWS). The team partners with the business to optimize sales motions, partner programs, and incentives in multi-sided marketplaces. The role involves setting and executing the priorities of a centralized team, stakeholder management, and working with executives, product/program owners, science leadership, and science ICs.

Responsibilities

• Create multi-year research agendas that drive step-change growth for the business.
• Interface directly with executives, product/program owners, science leadership, and science ICs.
• Set and execute the priorities of a centralized team, stakeholder management, and working backward.
• Partner to work across teams (earn trust).
• Disambiguate structural relationships through a strong grounding in applied theory.
• Own both production recommendation systems and feature generation for external systems.
• Shape the strategic direction of the AWS Central Economics and Science team and collaborate with other science teams at AWS.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in economics or related field.
• Multiple years experience in industry, consulting, government, academic research or equivalent.
• Proven track record in conducting research and solving business problems leveraging techniques from economics or related disciplines.
• Advanced coding ability in a scripting language such as Python.
• Experience with big data tools such as Spark is a plus.
