Sr. Manager, Cost Management
Job Summary
Fleet Data Centers is seeking a Senior Cost Manager to drive program-level cost management for large-scale data center build programs. The role involves cost planning and control, progress measurement, risk mitigation, and costed-schedule development. This is a people manager position responsible for leading, coaching, and developing a team of Cost Principals.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Contracts Management team on RFx processes, including bid-leveling, cost negotiations, and financial planning.
- Manage cost checks and conduct valuations on larger projects, ensuring timely and accurate cost checking and valuation processes.
- Communicate with vendors to gather status information and prepare cost estimate updates.
- Provide estimate and cost planning, including producing and presenting final cost plans for customer engagement, vendor assessments, and internal reporting.
- Facilitate effective communication on project status, monitor project finances, and manage any variations or claims that may arise during the construction process.
- Drive cost control, risk mitigation, and overall status of the data center build program(s).
- Manage cost impact and contingency management, and commitment tracking logs.
- Manage financial aspects, including keeping track of ongoing margin levels and monthly fee/resource forecasts, and assisting the general contractor to ensure accurate data.
- Collaborate with design/construction/project management teams to determine exact quantities for large data center construction programs, assess labor requirements, and specialized skills needed for complex infrastructure installation and maintenance.
- Ensure adherence to project schedules and budgets.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying, finance/cost management, construction management, or engineering, or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years as a subject matter expert in Quantity Surveying and experience in the construction industry.
- 5+ years of strategic sourcing/procurement experience, including 3+ years working for a hyperscaler and/or data center developer/operator.
- 3+ years of commercial/transactional contracts negotiation experience, including awarding, drafting, negotiation, execution, and administration.
- Experience managing and developing direct reports.
- Experience with pre-construction/GMP/Lump Sum/NTE negotiations.
- Experience with large mission critical and/or data center programs.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong knowledge of supply chain management tools, data analytics, and BI tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advance degree/license in quantity surveying, cost management, construction management, or engineering.
- Experience with typical construction/services contracting approaches and fee structures.
- Proficiency in cost management systems and tools and integration into corporate financial systems.
- Proven track record in implementing process improvement initiatives and driving operational excellence.
Location and Travel
This role can be in Denver, CO or Seattle, WA - Hybrid, 3 days per week in office. 15% travel (U.S.).
