ManagementFull-time

Solstice Advanced Materials is a leading global specialty materials company that advances science for smarter outcomes, offering high-performance solutions across critical industries and applications.

About the role

The Senior Maintenance Engineer is the site’s technical authority for equipment reliability, serving as the bridge between Maintenance Planning/Scheduling, Rotating and Fixed Equipment Engineering, and plant Operations. This role owns the reliability strategy for assigned equipment families — developing and refining PM/PdM programs, leading root cause failure analysis (RCFA), and driving corrective and preventive actions that reduce unplanned downtime. This is an individual-contributor role requiring deep technical judgment, cross-functional influence, and a relentless focus on moving the plant from reactive to proactive, world-class maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Own and continuously improve reliability strategies (PM/PdM frequencies, task content, and criticality rankings) for assigned rotating and/or fixed equipment families.
  • Lead root cause failure analysis (RCFA) on significant equipment failures, chronic bad actors, and unplanned downtime events; drive corrective actions to closure.
  • Develop and maintain equipment criticality assessments (FMEA-based) to prioritize maintenance strategy investment and spare parts stocking levels.
  • Champion predictive maintenance technologies — vibration analysis, infrared thermography, oil analysis, and guided wave ultrasonic testing on buried piping — and translate findings into actionable work.
  • Analyze MTBF, PM compliance, and backlog trends to identify systemic reliability gaps and recommend targeted improvement plans.
  • Maintain and audit equipment master data (IE01/IE02), functional location structure (IL01/IL02), and BOM accuracy (CS01/CS03) for assigned areas in SAP RISE.
  • Build, revise, and standardize maintenance task lists (IA01/IA05) and maintenance items/plans (IP30/IP17) to reflect current best practice and OEM guidance.
  • Configure and monitor measuring points and counters (IK11/IK17) supporting condition-based and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Review notification trends (IW29/IW28) and technical backlog (IW38) to identify recurring failure modes and planning gaps.
  • Partner with Maintenance Planning to ensure job plans, task lists, and BOMs align with field-verified equipment configuration.
  • Develop technical scopes for turnarounds and major maintenance campaigns for assigned equipment, including inspection and repair specifications.
  • Represent Maintenance/Reliability in management of change (MOC) reviews, providing technical risk assessment on equipment or procedure modifications.
  • Support capital and reliability improvement project development, including cost justification, equipment specification review, and commissioning support.
  • Coordinate with OEMs, engineering contractors, and NDE/NDT service providers on complex repairs and inspections.
  • Ensure reliability programs and repair recommendations comply with OSHA process safety management (PSM), mechanical integrity, and site SOP requirements.
  • Review PM/PDM completion quality in the field; escalate recurring deficiencies and coach crews on procedure adherence.
  • Support incident investigations and quality escapes involving equipment failure, providing technical root cause input.
  • Ensure job packages and repair procedures (per JPS-OR-001) reflect current engineering standards and lessons learned.
  • Serve as a technical mentor to Engineers-in-Training, junior engineers, and craft leads on reliability principles and troubleshooting methods.
  • Deliver technical training on failure modes, PDM technologies, and SAP RISE best practices to planners, supervisors, and technicians.
  • Model and reinforce a culture of accountability, best-practice execution, and continuous improvement across the maintenance organization.
  • Recommend maintenance strategy and staffing adjustments to the Maintenance Manager based on reliability data and workload forecasts.
  • Provide technical expertise to ensure efficient operation and compliance with quality, cost, and efficiency requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in safety, quality, yields, and process capability.
  • Assist in the scaleup and implementation of developmental products/processes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline required.
  • 7+ years of maintenance, reliability, or process engineering experience in a chemical, refining, or heavy industrial plant environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, gearboxes) and/or fixed equipment (piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers).
  • Working knowledge of SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) module; SAP RISE experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading RCFA/RCA investigations and translating findings into sustained corrective action.

Qualifications

  • Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) preferred.
  • API 510/570/653 inspection certification a plus for fixed-equipment-focused candidates.
  • Vibration analysis certification (Category I or II) a plus for rotating-equipment-focused candidates.
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire).
  • Valid driver’s license.

Skills

  • Strong technical foundation in mechanical systems, materials, and failure mechanisms across rotating and/or fixed equipment.
  • Skilled in root cause failure analysis methodologies (5-Why, fishbone, fault tree) and FMEA-based criticality assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, vendor manuals, and engineering specifications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Teams for data analysis, reporting, and cross-functional communication; Power BI experience a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to influence without direct authority across planning, operations, and craft teams.
  • Sound engineering judgment under pressure, particularly during equipment failures, turnarounds, or emergency response situations.
  • Skilled at balancing competing priorities — safety, reliability, cost, and schedule — in a fast-paced plant environment.

The annual base salary range for this position is $110,055 - $137,569. Salary is determined based on scope, responsibilities, candidate experience, education, training, key skills, and market considerations.

  • Employer-subsidized Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance.
  • Short-Term and Long-Term Disability.
  • 401(k) match.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts and Health Savings Accounts.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and Educational Assistance.
