Sr Life Underwriting Consultant

About the role

Transamerica is seeking experienced individual life underwriters to join their growing team. This position involves ensuring effective risk selection for cases reviewed, interacting frequently with Underwriting, New Business, and distribution groups, and having approval authority up to ($5,000,000-$7,500,000) through all tables and all ages. The ideal candidate will mentor and provide consultative services to subordinates, presenting in front of various groups, and continuously improving processes.

Responsibilities

• Ensure effective risk selection of cases reviewed
• Frequent interaction with Underwriting, New Business, and distribution groups
• Approval authority up to ($5,000,000-$7,500,000) through all tables and all ages
• Evaluate up to $10,000,000
• Proven competency at all job tasks and expectations of Underwriter, Intermediate Underwriter, Senior Underwriter, Underwriting Consultant, and Senior Underwriting Consultant
• Mentor and provide consultative services to subordinates
• Has a broader perception of how the dynamics in the business, the market, and the environment impact the team
• Is viewed as a change agent by other Underwriters in the department
• Creative and competent presenter in front of agent groups and Underwriting groups alike
• Demonstrated competency in speaking up and challenging others in a professional manner
• Continually looks for ways to improve processes and uses Lean techniques

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education/experience
• A minimum of 8 years life or health underwriting experience
• Demonstrated skill in AWD or similar system, MS Office skills, risk assessment skills, strong platform skills, and strong financial analytical skills

• Strong decision making and problem solving skills
• Ability to work independently and possibly work in a remote setting with a virtual environment and team

Salary and Benefits

The Salary for this position generally ranges between $97,000-$120,000 annually. An Annual Bonus of 15% based on the Company Bonus Plan/Individual Performance and is at the Company’s discretion. Please note that the salary range is a good faith estimate for this position and actual starting pay is determined by several factors including qualifications, experience, geography, work location designation (in-office, hybrid, remote), and operational needs.
