Sr. Lead Installer/Driver
Position Summary
The Sr. Lead Installer leads project teams of the highest complexity in the installation of system furniture at customer sites. The Lead Installer serves as a main point of contact for both performing installation and directing installation teams. Plans work flow, directs work of installers, resolves installation problems, and manages all administrative paperwork. Works closely with customer to ensure customer’s satisfaction with the installation.
Essential Functions
- Effectively installs all types of commercial office furniture and can properly install 45 panels/components per day with little or no supervision.
- Performs all needed tasks to stage the job site including lifting/carrying all materials to the site (includes stair carries as needed).
- Accurately complete and submit required paperwork, i.e. Timesheets, Merchandise Return Forms, Delivery Tickets, Change Orders and Punch Lists in a timely manner.
- Properly disassembles and reassembles all systems furniture regardless of manufacturer.
- Properly installs all forms of wall attachments (i.e., white boards, Egan boards, wall channels, panel attachment brackets, etc.).
- Understands which fasteners to use, how to install and fix locks, and how to use metal touch up paint.
- Creative solutions to resolve problems that emerge during the installation.
- Aware of Company/Steelcase resources and how to use them effectively when solving problems in the field.
- Aids in project clean up and ensures the installation is ready for customer use.
- Provides leadership for installation teams on projects with significant complexity.
- Consistently brings projects in, on-time and under budget.
- Oversees and provides direction for projects of any size and complexity including directing the work of installers.
- Maintains an accurate labor log updated daily.
- Ensures change orders, merchandise return forms, punch lists, delivery tickets and all other paperwork is completed accurately and on-time.
- Effectively interacts with customers, trades, colleagues, subs, and temps.
- Works effectively with tradesmen (e.g., electricians, cablers, etc.).
- When leading projects, works directly with the customer to resolve problems and maintain customer satisfaction.
- Resolves conflicts within the work team.
Qualifications
- Should possess excellent communication skills; both verbal and written.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage people in a team-based environment.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- Capable with MS Office, Outlook, Excel and Word.
- Understanding and knowledge of product lines and services offered.

- Understanding of and effective use of blue prints, elevations, typicals and specifications having to do with Steelcase systems furniture and the ability to apply this knowledge to non-Steelcase systems.
- Able to understand the electrical components of Steelcase system furniture (i.e., duplexes, triplexes, dedicated circuits, power poles, powerways, panel connectors, base power-ins), as well as the various types of electrical (i.e., 3 circuit, 3+D, 2+2, etc.).
- Able to apply concepts from Steelcase electrical systems to non-Steelcase system furniture.
- Must be able to provide own tool set as defined by One Workplace.
- Must be able to drive company vehicles (CDL required).
- Must have a valid driver’s license in the state of Washington and maintain a good driving record (as defined by One Workplace).
- Must be able to drive 24 ft. trucks (CDL required).
- Occasionally, installers may be dispatched directly to the customer site. In such cases, the installer must have reliable means of transportation to arrive on time.
- Flexible with work schedules and locations as installers may be dispatched directly to the customer site.
- Position requires ownership/access to a reliable vehicle.
- Basic understanding of hand tools (manual and power).

- Experience/Training/Education/Certification: High school diploma or equivalent required. Five + years or more of related work experience; installation of commercial office furniture experience required.
Work Environment
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Heavy physical activity required. This position will routinely have to move, and lift up to 50 pounds and on an occasional basis lift up to 100 pounds. Valid state driver license required, since this position requires frequent driving, between company locations, sometimes resulting in long periods of time in a car on the freeway. Noise levels are moderate.
