Sr IT Portfolio Management Professional
About the role
The Senior IT Portfolio Management Professional – Insurance Tech Segment partners closely with business, technology, and product stakeholders across the Insurance value chain to ensure the IT portfolio and demand pipeline are aligned to enterprise priorities. Work assignments involve moderately complex to complex issues requiring deep analysis of business operations, insurance technology interdependencies, and varying organizational, regulatory, and market-driven factors.
This role organizes and prioritizes programs and projects in alignment with IT Strategy, Enterprise Architecture guidelines, Delivery roadmaps, and segment-level strategic plans. Responsibilities include balancing discretionary and non-discretionary spend (e.g., regulatory, compliance, security, member experience, operational efficiency), evaluating funding against annual portfolio budgets, managing intake/throughput capacity, adjusting schedules, and ensuring the right financial and organizational support is allocated to priority work.
The position influences departmental strategy and drives technology portfolio decisions by evaluating business value, platform impacts, customer experience outcomes, and risk. It requires autonomy in decision-making regarding technical approaches, sequencing, and dependencies within insurance technology ecosystems—such as claims platforms, digital front doors, core admin systems, and data platforms.
Responsibilities
- Align IT portfolio and demand pipeline with enterprise priorities through collaboration with business, technology, and product stakeholders.
- Analyze complex issues related to business operations, insurance technology interdependencies, and regulatory/market factors.
- Prioritize programs and projects in alignment with IT Strategy, Enterprise Architecture, and strategic plans.
- Balance discretionary and non-discretionary spend (e.g., regulatory, compliance, security, member experience).
- Evaluate funding against annual portfolio budgets and manage intake/throughput capacity.
- Adjust schedules and allocate financial/organizational support to priority work.
- Influence departmental strategy and drive technology portfolio decisions based on business value, platform impacts, and risk.
- Produce portfolio-level metrics, performance dashboards, forecasting views, and trend reporting.
- Utilize ad-hoc query tools and data repositories for portfolio, financial, and operational data analysis.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in technology, IT portfolio management, IT delivery, or related fields.
- Experience working within insurance technology ecosystems (e.g., claims, policy administration, provider systems, digital health platforms, clinical/UM systems, regulatory/compliance technology) strongly preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio).
- Passion for improving member, provider, and associate experiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- SAFe Lean Portfolio Management Certification or similar.
- Six Sigma and/or PMP certification.
- Experience in problem analysis, process engineering, or operational excellence within insurance or healthcare technology.
- Experience producing executive-level metrics, KPIs, and trend reports related to portfolio performance, capacity, or outcomes.
Work-At-Home Requirements
- Self-provided internet service must meet minimum download speed of 25 Mbps and upload speed of 10 Mbps; wired cable or DSL connection suggested.
- Satellite, cellular, and microwave connections may be used only if approved by leadership.
- Associates in California, Illinois, Montana, or South Dakota will receive a bi-weekly payment for internet expenses.
- Humana provides telephone equipment appropriate for business requirements.
- Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI/HIPAA information.
- Occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.
Pay
The pay range for this full-time (40 hours per week) position is $106,900 - $147,000 per year. The range may vary based on geographic location, and individual pay will depend on demonstrated skills, knowledge, experience, education, and certifications. This role is eligible for a bonus incentive plan based on company and/or individual performance.
