The Sr Industrial Engineer supports the Sensors portfolio of factories in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, focusing on maximizing throughput, improving efficiency, and delivering increasing value to the customer.

Qualifications

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience with capacity/constraint analysis.
  • Experience with CAD software to develop factory layouts (e.g. AutoCAD).
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing best practices.
  • Experience with discrete event simulation modeling.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and creative thinking skills.
  • Strong time management skills, ability to multi-task and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Self-starter, who can prioritize to meet various deadlines.

What You Will Learn

Analyze manufacturing system performance to identify undesirable effects and opportunities for improvement. Calculate resource utilization and identify throughput constraints. Apply Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing principles to eliminate constraints, improve efficiency, and meet or exceed cost, quality, and on-time delivery goals. Create process flows, value stream maps, pareto charts, spaghetti diagrams, and CAD drawings to graphically show manufacturing processes, the movement of material, the exchange of information, and key metrics. Develop strategic plan for factory space, manpower, equipment and automation. Contribute to strategic roadmaps focused on factory expansion, manufacturing technology insertion, infrastructure improvements, obsolescence mitigation, and the integration of new capabilities. Partner with other functions to manage projects that modify the factory footprint, change the layout of factory equipment, and/or add new capability. Lead analyses to support competitive bids, factory proposals, business case development for future investments, and Make/Buy/Where analyses. Participate in factory safety and ergonomic improvements.
