Sr HR Generalist/HR Business Partner
About the role
We’re looking for a seasoned Senior HR Generalist / HR Business Partner to serve as a trusted advisor to leaders and a strategic partner across the employee lifecycle. This is a senior-level HR role responsible for end-to-end recruiting, onboarding, employee relations, and union/CBA administration. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, sound judgment, and accountability — owning outcomes and ensuring our people processes are compliant, consistent, and aligned with organizational strategy.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a trusted advisor to managers and leaders on performance management, employee relations, and workforce decisions
- Coach leaders on effective feedback, documentation, corrective action, and employee development
- Lead complex employee relations matters, including investigations, corrective action, and resolution planning
- Exercise sound judgment in applying policy, precedent, and contract language
- Partner with leadership on workforce planning, role clarity, and team effectiveness
- Support organizational change initiatives with a people-centric and compliant approach
- Act as a primary HR resource for interpretation and application of the CBA
- Support grievance processes, including documentation, investigation coordination, and response preparation
- Participate in union–management meetings and communications as appropriate
- Partner with senior HR leadership on labor strategy and risk mitigation
- Own and lead full-cycle recruiting for assigned business units
- Lead job scoping, job description development, and position leveling
- Develop sourcing strategies and manage candidate pipelines
- Conduct candidate screening and structured interviews
- Lead offer development and negotiation aligned with compensation frameworks and CBA provisions
- Oversee background checks and compliance requirements
- Track and report recruiting metrics such as time-to-fill, quality of hire, and candidate experience
- Ensure recruiting practices comply with employment law, internal policy, and labor agreements
- Own and lead the end-to-end onboarding experience
- Partner with managers to ensure first-day readiness and onboarding milestone completion
- Deliver or oversee HR onboarding sessions covering policies, benefits, compliance, and culture
- Serve as senior HR point of contact for new hires during transition
- Evaluate onboarding effectiveness and drive improvements
- Maintain accurate HRIS data and support audits and reporting
- Assist with benefits administration, leave management, and employee inquiries
- Administer and interpret HR policies consistently and fairly
- Support HR projects, system implementations, and continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure compliance with employment laws and labor regulations
- Identify process gaps and lead improvement efforts
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 7–10+ years of progressive HR experience, including full-cycle recruiting and advanced employee relations
- Demonstrated experience supporting a unionized workforce and administering a CBA
- Strong knowledge of employment law and HR best practices
- Prowess in advising and influencing leaders at multiple levels
- High level of judgment, discretion, and professionalism
- Ability to operate independently in a complex, regulated environment
Preferred Experience
- HR certification (SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR, or PHR)
- Experience in financial services, credit union, or other regulated industries
- Experience supporting grievance processes or collective bargaining preparation
- Advanced experience with HRIS and applicant tracking systems
