Sr Hardware Development Engineer, CPU and Memory Performance Team
About the role
AWS EC2 owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS server instances. We support all AWS compute, storage, accelerator servers and ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of hardware engineers, software engineers, system engineers, technical program managers, and other vital roles to collaborate across AWS, delivering the highest standards for safety, security, and seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost.
Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering of server hardware and software to address Amazon’s hardest problems, building high-quality, architecturally sound systems aligned with AWS business needs.
- Interact with internal and external interdisciplinary teams to design, develop, validate, launch, monitor, and troubleshoot server performance at large scale.
- Ensure servers operate at maximum performance while staying within thermal budgets.
- Work closely with CPU/GPU suppliers to align and influence roadmaps, driving future architectures.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related discipline.
- Experience developing functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures.
- 5+ years of experience identifying and root-causing hardware/software issues in large-scale systems.
- 5+ years of experience with customer support for successive debugging/root-causing CPU performance issues.
- 5+ years of experience in CPU/memory architecture and subsystem design.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience with new CPU technology bring-up.
- 5+ years of experience with statistical analysis using large-scale data.
- 5+ years of experience leading memory standardization through JEDEC, CPU architecture, RAS, DDR Memory technology, system performance, security, and troubleshooting.
- Repeated success leading architecturally significant projects from inception through launch, including communicating with users, technical teams, and management to collect requirements and produce technical designs.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Pay
USA, WA, Seattle - $159,200.00 - $215,300.00 USD annually. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
