About the role

This role is a Sr. Functional Analyst, SAP in the Global Product Development group supporting the US and Canada. The primary responsibility is to lead and deliver SAP system-specific legislative and regulatory updates to ensure client SAP systems remain compliant with global legal requirements. Functional Analysts combine in-depth product expertise with the latest tax and regulatory changes to produce system impact specifications and test strategies for Development & QA. The position follows each tax and regulatory change from discovery through successful translation into an application update, ensuring high-quality deliverables and compliance for mission-critical enterprise applications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team in translating tax and regulatory requirements for the US and Canada into system changes for clients’ ERP systems.
  • Organize and facilitate problem-solving discussions with clients and internal operational teams to resolve issues on complex updates relating to US and Canadian HR/Payroll.
  • Provide in-depth functional/technical knowledge and understanding of SAP systems across multiple versions (US, Canada, and Quebec HR/Payroll Modules) to the development team.
  • Ensure total product compliance with all applicable legislation and regulations through analysis of each tax and legislative change, producing Business Analysis & Functional specifications detailing the impact to specific SAP modules.
  • Provide in-depth knowledge of US and Canadian Payroll from a business perspective and as an end-to-end process.
  • Lead the analysis, design, and configuration of complex legislative requirements, including testing updates to ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and regulations.
  • Lead the team in designing thorough test plans to ensure quality deliverables.
  • Identify potential points of contention for deliverables, create and implement strategies to mitigate shortfalls in timeline and budget.
  • Anticipate problems before they occur, define problems and risks, identify possible causes, and lead the team to implement the most appropriate solutions.
  • Proactively identify risks and issues on development deliveries, leading the team to develop and maintain risk management on deliverables.
  • Assist with complex troubleshooting of Tax & Regulatory client cases.
  • Provide expertise in how US, Canadian, and Quebec legislation is configured and processed in SAP.
  • Provide expertise in how US, Canada, and Quebec payroll taxes are calculated and the respective processes in SAP.
  • Provide in-depth knowledge and experience with US Tax Reporter, including interpreting state tax file specifications and configuring SAP to produce the file.
  • Provide in-depth knowledge of Canada T4 and Quebec RL forms and respective processes in SAP.
  • Design and develop business requirements, user stories (functional guidance), configuration requirements, and test plans.
  • Work closely with the development team to ensure adherence to functional design and that all business requirements are satisfied.
  • Formulate test strategies, review test plans, and perform system tests with the QA team to ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Assist the Development and QA Management Team with planning activities related to product-specific Tax & Regulatory updates (e.g., bundle scheduling, project planning, and tracking).
  • Organize and communicate information clearly, disclosing details needed for product specialists and subscribing clients, including release documentation, installation instructions, and client manual configuration instructions.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Global Tax and Regulatory team, the Development & QA team, and the client base, ensuring accurate dissemination of information relating to US legislative changes.
  • Communicate effectively across various teams, internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience (15+ years) in US & Canada SAP HR/Payroll projects as primary duties.
  • In-depth functional/technical knowledge and understanding of SAP systems (US, Canada, and Quebec HR/Payroll).
  • Expert knowledge of US and Canadian Payroll from a business perspective and as an end-to-end process.
  • Expert understanding of US & Canada SAP Payroll from a legislative perspective, including how a payroll department operates and its expectations.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with US Tax Reporter, including interpreting state tax file specifications and configuring SAP to produce the file.
  • In-depth understanding of the configuration of SAP Modules.
  • A track record of successful roles in several Enterprise Application projects (including full development and QA lifecycle processes).
  • Ability to work closely with the Global Tax & Regulatory team to ensure accurate transfer and comprehension of critical information relating to each tax and regulatory change.
  • Ability to work closely with development to ensure adherence to functional specifications and with the QA team to develop high-level test plans and test strategies.

Skills

  • Proficient in developing Business Analysis and Functional specification documentation from regulatory and tax data.
  • Ability to explain payroll processes and calculations independent of ERP system.
  • Experience in the support of global SAP operations.
  • Strong analytical and product management skills.
  • Ability to successfully engage in multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong self-starter with a committed work ethic and stable internet service.
  • Strong professional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work well with other groups within the delivery organization.
  • Good English, conversational and written.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience.
  • AGILE methodology experience (a plus).
  • JIRA experience (a plus).
  • Ability to read/write/speak French (a plus).
  • ABAP/Debugging knowledge (a plus).

Pay

The general salary range for this role is $110,000 - $140,000 depending on skills and experience. Rimini Street’s target pay for each position is available upon request during the interview process.
