Sr. Financial Analyst, Research Finance and Operations
About the Role
The Senior Financial Analyst provides professional development, analysis, and review of financial data and systems. This role assists with preparing financial reports and oversees Research's allocations and commitments, including all payments, schedules, and projections. This position assists the department leadership with financial analysis and research, including internal financial management reporting and analyses to monitor financial performance and establish forecast models supporting an integrated planning process and performance tracking.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for monthly reconciliation of cost centers on a timely basis as assigned, including, but not exclusively, all divisional salary cost centers, department cost centers, and allocations issued in university-wide cost centers
- Maintains budget funding and records for all employees and positions in the department
- Reviews ongoing financial transactions to ensure appropriate funding and coding by coordinating review and corrections if needed and promptly communicating any budget issues to departments
- Prepares financial analysis as requested
- Compiles data and completes research to support the analysis as needed
- Extracts information from the PeopleSoft system as needed
- Streamlines and automates work processes, analyzes business operations, and identifies improvements to ensure efficient and accurate financial tracking and reporting
- Collaborates with leadership to ensure financial data is available to support departmental management decisions optimally
- Prepares financial reporting as assigned, including participation in the year-end and month-end closing processes
- Works closely with leadership on special assignments and performs specialized financial analyses as needed
- Interprets information to identify change opportunities and makes recommendations to management about business process improvement to increase work efficiencies and effectiveness that will contribute to achieving the business goals and objectives
- Complies with applicable laws, regulations, policies & procedures employing sound financial and business practices and appropriate internal controls
- Collaborates with departmental managers to review and update internal SOPs in response to regulatory, policy and compliance changes
- Supports department team members in special projects and other initiatives
- Reviews standard reports and develops specialized reports used for the analysis of accounting transactions and to support accounting records
- Performs special studies, research, and analysis of financial issues, providing recommendations for courses of action as requested
- Stays informed about matters relevant to higher education and legislative changes that may impact the department
- Handles sensitive financial, personnel, and organizational information with a high degree of discretion and maintains compliance with university policies and confidentiality requirements
- Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a related field. Five (5) years of related work experience. This position may require the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Pay & Schedule
Salary Range: up to $72,930/Annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications. Job Type: Full Time. Applications will be accepted through 11:59 PM CDT on 9/18/2026.
