About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Financial Analyst to join the Decision Support, Strategy & Value Improvement team at NYU Langone Health. In this role, the successful candidate will produce financial analyses that assist in monitoring the hospital's financial performance and provide analytical support for the system-wide Value Based Management (VBM) initiative. This includes identifying opportunities and implementing solutions to drive value across all sites of the health system.

The Senior Financial Analyst will enhance existing system-wide financial dashboards and develop new dashboards supporting strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will have experience with cost accounting, data reconciliation, data analysis, and visualization, and be comfortable handling large data sets.

The Decision Support team partners directly with clinical, operational, and cross-functional teams to provide insightful analyses, cost accounting, benchmarking, and analytical services to achieve institutional goals.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide portfolio of complex analyses including financial, operational, clinical, policy, and benchmark reporting.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the internal costing system (EPSi) and run accurate EPSi reports; understand relationships between various EPSi fields and restrictions for business decisions.
  • Conduct financial analyses to identify cost, revenue, and quality improvement opportunities and provide decision support for key strategic initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain system-wide Tableau dashboards for financial reporting, identification of value opportunities, and department performance.
  • Package and summarize analytical findings for senior leadership with clear results and thoughtful recommendations.
  • Independently develop analytical frameworks for large, complex data sets and exercise discretion in analytical approach.
  • Create and maintain Alteryx workflows or Tableau Prep flows to automate processes, implement controls, and reduce redundancies.
  • Proactively communicate to management any arising issues or barriers to meet timelines/deliverables.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement (e.g., improving data integrity, process flow) and act independently to resolve or improve them.
  • Utilize Alteryx, Microsoft Excel, and Tableau for data analysis, validation, and visualization.
  • Demonstrate initiative in taking on new tasks or responsibilities and exhibit creative thinking by suggesting alternative solutions to problems.
  • Engage in benchmarking activities and other projects as needed, including cost-saving opportunities, physician resource utilization analysis, and quality/cost analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in a business subject (e.g., accounting, finance, economics) and 3-5 years of related experience. A graduate degree in business or public administration is preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, analytical skills, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel (vlookups, pivot tables, sub-totals, and other functions).

Skills

  • Strong foundation in financial analysis and a general understanding of the healthcare industry.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Excel and/or Access.
  • Extensive experience in data transformation and manipulation.
  • Basic understanding of database relationships and structures.
  • Experience in Business Intelligence/visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Preferred: High-level proficiency in Tableau, Excel, Access, and Decision Support reporting programs.
  • Preferred: Experience working with a decision support/cost accounting system.
  • Action-oriented with experience managing aggressive deadlines and a broad range of technical skills.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $84,577.92 - $98,500.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
