About the Role
This is a fully remote position, though candidates must be based in the Akron, OH area. The role involves installing and servicing general-purpose and customer-specific industrial packaging equipment, providing on-demand and scheduled service, and delivering training. Daily travel by auto with frequent overnight stays is required, with drive times ranging from 1 to 6 hours per day.
Responsibilities
- Perform duties in accordance with all safety regulations and protocols, completing safety-related training on time.
- Document daily service activities and expenses accurately and timely in the appropriate recording system.
- Identify complex problems related to customer equipment, develop and evaluate options, and implement effective solutions.
- Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics for installation, repair, upgrades, and retrofits.
- Provide technical support and training to Signode Technicians, and manage their scheduled service calls.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment breakdowns involving mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and electronic functions.
- Perform preventative maintenance, disassemble units, replace defective parts, and test equipment for proper operation.
- Coordinate pre-installation meetings with customers to review procedures, inspect sites, and install, adjust, and test equipment.
- Report and follow up on potential unsafe conditions, suggesting effective solutions.
- Maintain effective customer relationships through professional communication about product failures and corrective actions.
- Communicate essential information to stakeholders, including customers, management, and engineering.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment using intermediate PLC knowledge.
- Identify upgrade and retrofit opportunities and notify appropriate parties for quotation proposals.
- Design and conduct training programs for repair and preventative maintenance for customers and company representatives.
- Prepare comprehensive non-conformance reports and service bulletins.
- Assist the Regional Service Manager with inventory sourcing and parts management for assigned equipment.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Technical/College Degree.
- 4-5 years of transferable experience working on electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
- PLC background.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Self-starter able to work with minimal supervision.
- Desirable: Professional courses in electrical, mechanical, or automation.

Pay
The hourly wage for this position ranges from $33.00 to $40.00, varying based on specific responsibilities and geographic location. The starting rate within this range will be determined by the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and skillset.
