Major Responsibilities
- Lead design teams supporting the development of high-quality engineering deliverables for complex infrastructure projects.
- Perform technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices, focusing on creating and modifying site development plans using advanced techniques in industry-standard design tools like Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation, and Bentley OpenPlant Modeler.
- Apply advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges within a specific engineering discipline.
- Contribute to the development of innovative engineering solutions.
- Use digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) with standardized procedures to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
- Provide consultation, training, and oversight to other engineering technicians to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with project standards.
- Establish and communicate appropriate design and graphic standards.
- Review project requirements to determine correct formats and deliverable content.
- Promote quality and consistency across projects, groups, and sections.
- Ensure deliverables comply with applicable codes and standards.
- May contribute to continuous improvement of design guides, standards, and processes.
- May participate and lead process improvement and change management activities.
- Manage drawing control and maintain historical project records.
- Apply engineering principles and established design practices to complex designs.
- Exercises sound judgment in interpreting inputs and making deliverable-related decisions.
- Handles complex technical assignments and provides guidance to other professionals.
- Performs design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and documentation.
- May review deliverables produced by others for quality and accuracy.
- Coordinates with other design groups to exchange information for design development.
- Supports field activities as required.
- Communicates project design requirements, progress, and schedules.
- Assists with identifying key client interests and drivers and may determine the key clients in some instances.
- Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns.
- Aids discipline or department management in developing and communicating appropriate design standards and process improvement activities.
- Identifies and supports training and development needs for supervised personnel.
- Recognized for expertise in one or more areas.
- Makes presentations and conducts training classes within a specialized area of expertise.
Required Qualifications
- Typically a minimum of 11 years related work experience.
- Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology required.
- Bachelor Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
