Major Responsibilities

  • Lead design teams supporting the development of high-quality engineering deliverables for complex infrastructure projects.
  • Perform technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices, focusing on creating and modifying site development plans using advanced techniques in industry-standard design tools like Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation, and Bentley OpenPlant Modeler.
  • Apply advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges within a specific engineering discipline.
  • Contribute to the development of innovative engineering solutions.
  • Use digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) with standardized procedures to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
  • Provide consultation, training, and oversight to other engineering technicians to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with project standards.
  • Establish and communicate appropriate design and graphic standards.
  • Review project requirements to determine correct formats and deliverable content.
  • Promote quality and consistency across projects, groups, and sections.
  • Ensure deliverables comply with applicable codes and standards.
  • May contribute to continuous improvement of design guides, standards, and processes.
  • May participate and lead process improvement and change management activities.
  • Manage drawing control and maintain historical project records.
  • Apply engineering principles and established design practices to complex designs.
  • Exercises sound judgment in interpreting inputs and making deliverable-related decisions.
  • Handles complex technical assignments and provides guidance to other professionals.
  • Performs design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and documentation.
  • May review deliverables produced by others for quality and accuracy.
  • Coordinates with other design groups to exchange information for design development.
  • Supports field activities as required.
  • Communicates project design requirements, progress, and schedules.
  • Assists with identifying key client interests and drivers and may determine the key clients in some instances.
  • Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns.
  • Aids discipline or department management in developing and communicating appropriate design standards and process improvement activities.
  • Identifies and supports training and development needs for supervised personnel.
  • Recognized for expertise in one or more areas.
  • Makes presentations and conducts training classes within a specialized area of expertise.

Required Qualifications

  • Typically a minimum of 11 years related work experience.
  • Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology required.
  • Bachelor Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
