This opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Power Providers Market Sector, supporting Advanced Power Generation (APG) projects and building critical infrastructure for today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. Electrical professionals contribute to power systems design, including duct bank design, cable tray design, grounding, lighting, and other electrical systems supporting advanced power generation facilities. The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Staff Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high-quality engineering 2D/3D deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Functions as a senior engineering technician, technical design specialist, and/or supervisor
  • Applies advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges within a specific engineering discipline
  • Contributes to the development of innovative engineering solutions
  • Uses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) with standardized procedures to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
  • Provides consultation, training, and oversight to other engineering technicians to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with project standards
  • Establishes and communicates appropriate design and graphic standards
  • Reviews project requirements to determine correct formats and deliverable content
  • Promotes quality and consistency across projects, groups, and sections
  • Reviews design inputs to ensure alignment and consistency
  • Ensures deliverables comply with applicable codes and standards
  • May contribute to continuous improvement of design guides, standards, and processes
  • Manages drawing control and maintains historical project records
  • Applies engineering principles and established design practices to complex designs
  • Exercises sound judgment in interpreting inputs and making deliverable-related decisions
  • Handles complex technical assignments and provides guidance to other professionals
  • Performs design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and documentation
  • May review deliverables produced by others for quality and accuracy
  • May monitor production to ensure consistency, budget, and schedule
  • Collaborates with other design groups to exchange information for design development
  • May support field activities as required
  • Communicates project design requirements, progress, and schedules
  • Identifies and supports training and development needs for supervised personnel

Required Qualifications

  • Power generation design experience
  • Bentley Microstation experience
  • Experience with 3D modeling of equipment, Duct bank design, cable tray design, grounding, lighting (extra)
  • Typically a minimum of 11 years related work experience
  • Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology required
  • Bachelor Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred

Pay

USD 45.44 - USD 60.59 Per Hour
