Sr Engineering Specialist

Consistent with My Leadership Accountabilities, the Manufacturing Engineer is accountable to establish and maintain process recipes for operating lines to safely produce products that consistently meet codes, specifications, and customer requirements at the lowest cost. The role also focuses on continuously improving the glass-making process to eliminate waste, improve safety, reduce cost, increase capacity and productivity, and enhance product quality.

Responsibilities

• Safety and Sustainability
  • Live the OC Safety and Sustainability standards and adhere to safety responsibilities.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and environmentally compliant work environment, prioritizing safety culture.
  • Develop risk assessments for critical tasks and ensure control plans, work instructions, and procedures prioritize employee safety.
  • Implement a personal safety action plan and review with leadership.
  • Monitor safety metrics: RIR, first aids, near misses, SAFE, and Critical 6.
  • Adhere to Leader Safety Standard Work and Hazard ID protocols.
• Customer Focus
  • Identify, understand, and teach Critical Product Characteristics required to deliver quality products to customers.
  • Develop and implement procedures to ensure products consistently meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Support experiments or trials for new and existing products to ensure fitness for use.
  • Track metrics: Customer FFU and Schedule Attainment.
• Quality Assurance and Process Performance
  • Conduct process audits to review Critical Product Characteristics and Critical Process Variables, implementing sustainable corrective actions for shifts or upsets.
  • Determine process consistency and capability (Cpk).
  • Implement control charting schemes for Critical Process Variables based on ISBMS and S&T specifications.
  • Develop and implement Operator Control Plans to ensure products meet specifications at the lowest cost.
  • Identify and eliminate common causes of product and process variation (troubleshooting).
  • Analyze product and process data, providing feedback and recommendations to optimize performance.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and best practices from S&T, ISBMS, or other facilities.
  • Implement corrective actions for quality complaints and hold tags.
  • Coach, counsel, and train employees on process control.
  • Establish processes for critical tasks and audit for adherence and compliance.
  • Partner with maintenance to resolve equipment issues and request capital funding for modifications.
  • Track metrics: Operational Efficiencies (CE, OI, Mix Adjusted Pack Rate), Critical Product Characteristics, Critical Process Variables, and Cost Metrics.
  • Audit for environmental compliance.
• Leading and Developing Talent
  • Educate primary employees in the manufacturing process and process control procedures.
  • Partner with employees to develop and implement Operator Control Plans.
  • Collaborate with Maintenance to develop Operator Based Care plans for equipment, ensuring employee understanding and ownership.
  • Track metrics: Individual Goals and Objectives, presence of Operator Control Plans, and Employee Training Plans.

Requirements

• Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
• Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years in a manufacturing or technical environment.
  • Completion of an engineering-related Development Program or similar experience preferred.
• Skills & Abilities
  • Understands customer needs, product specifications, basic cost drivers, and Critical Process Variables (CPVs).
  • Works with basic principles of engineering and statistical concepts (trial design, data analysis, control charts, process capability, design of experiments).
  • Knowledge of fiberglass production, including raw materials, processes, and control systems.
  • Ability to communicate and engage employees at all organizational levels.
  • Manages multiple priorities or projects simultaneously.
  • Lean Certification or evidence of Lean Manufacturing experience.
  • Highly ethical, results-oriented, and a change agent with a strong service orientation.
  • Ability to travel 5-10%.
