About the Role

The Sr Engineer – Mechanical designs functional, reliable, and cost-effective heavy-duty vehicle components. Perform engineering analysis, design or re-design, and development of components for existing and new vehicles. Provide integration and execution support for vehicle and component design.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering calculations, investigations, and tasks according to Oshkosh and general industry engineering standards and processes.
  • Support senior engineers in preparing plans, designs, computation methods, and reporting.
  • Manage a project or part of a project of limited complexity; may manage multiple projects.
  • Collaborate with other engineering or business support disciplines internally and with external suppliers.
  • Provide guidance or mentorship to entry-level engineers, designers, or technicians.
  • Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources concerning technical issues.
  • Enforce proper use of engineering criteria and drawing standards.
  • Ensure technical issues are conducted within company policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate designs for performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Prepare and direct preparation of layouts, drawings, specifications, and bills of material.
  • Perform engineering analysis to support selection of parts, components, and materials.
  • Provide technical assistance for production support.
  • Analyze and resolve issues reported to Engineering via verbal or written communication.
  • Prepare technical proposals, quotations, reports, and presentations.
  • Create and maintain project documentation for analysis, research, and historical records.
  • Utilize analytical and mathematical approaches to calculate or model system performance and optimize designs.
  • Regular attendance is required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field with three (3) or more years of related experience.

Qualifications

  • Accredited Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Mechanical knowledge of automotive or heavy-vehicle equipment and related systems.
  • Experience with a high-level CAD system.

  • Complexity, Judgment, and Problem Solving: Generally diversified and moderately difficult work requiring judgment in adapting and interpreting established practices for undefined problems.
  • Supervisory/Managerial: General instructing, scheduling, and reviewing of others performing the same or directly related work; acts as “lead worker.”

    • Occasional: Driving, fine dexterity, manual dexterity, upper extremity repetitive motion.

    • Frequent: Analysis/reasoning, communication/interpretation, math/mental computation, reading, sustained mental activity (e.g., auditing, problem-solving, grant writing, composing reports), writing.
  • Environmental Demands:
    • Frequent: Work alone, frequent task changes, tedious/exacting work.
    • Occasional: High-volume public contact.
  • Work Schedule: Routine shift hours; infrequent overtime, weekend, or shift rotation.
  • Demands/Deadlines: High volume and variable work demands with deadlines imposing routine strain or considerable intermittent stress.
