Our Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Senior Engineer with expertise in ADAS, EVs, and/or AVs for our Vehicle Engineering Practice in our Farmington Hills, MI office. The candidate should have a fundamental interest in the automotive field, be technically talented with good hands-on skills, have excellent communication skills, and be motivated to grow professionally within Exponent.
Responsibilities
- Supporting existing consulting projects that involve the analysis and testing of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS); automated vehicles; electric vehicles; vehicle, engine, and component performance (e.g., emissions; fuel economy; noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH); drivability; acceleration; etc.); federal emissions and fuel economy testing; mechanical failures; safety assessments; federal and state regulations; and the design of consumer and industrial products.
- Developing specialized expertise in the automotive field such as the design, performance, and testing of existing or emerging automotive technology.
- Setting up and executing various test programs, including full-scale vehicle tests and component or control systems evaluations.
- Managing projects from initiation to completion and ensuring that Exponent meets its deadlines and produces exceptional work product.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field and 2+ years of experience (or an M.S. and 4+ years of experience).
- Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required.
- Experience in ADAS, electric vehicles (EVs), automated vehicles (AVs), and/or vehicle safety, vehicle and automotive system design, development, testing, and deployment.
- Knowledge of automotive systems and field and/or lab measurement experience required.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of dynamics, mechanical design, and control systems.
- P.E. license or the willingness to obtain a P.E. license.
- Versatile, team-oriented, willing to work overtime and travel when required.

- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to synthesize technical information and present it to specialists and non-specialists alike.
