About the role
Marine Operational Test Squadron One (VMX-1) in Yuma, Arizona, seeks an experienced CH-53K Operational Test and Evaluation Engineer. The position involves supporting VMX-1 with operational tests and evaluations, focusing on electronic warfare (EW) and radio frequency (RF) systems.
Responsibilities
- Support lab integration and simulation development scheduling
- Develop EW threat simulation from EWIRDB for use with RF simulators
- Provide expert guidance for RF simulation development and support simulation verification through testing
- Research/develop emitters/modes RF threat simulation to run on RF simulator for testing of EW radar receiver
- Create and maintain electrical system test strategy and test plans for various Electronic Warfare (EW) and Radio Frequency (RF) products
- Characterize wireless communication systems and devices
- Analyze and drive coverage and analysis of failures observed in integration, characterization, and system-level testing
- Facilitate electrical system performance, calibration, durability, and environmental testing of developmental components and systems per test plan
- Develop and maintain test standards, design and develop test equipment, or procure and handle purchased test capital equipment to support test readiness
- Support and perform field testing and act as a liaison to conduct ground and flight testing
- Leverage data analysis and existing tools to reproduce and characterize failures
- Automate tests to enhance test coverage and ensure reproducibility and repeatability
Requirements
- To be successful, the applicant must have in-depth knowledge of airborne EW system engineering design, development, integration, and testing
- Experience in understanding and analyzing EW intelligence databases
- Knowledgeable in constructing emitters using A2PATS to mimic emitter modes and antenna models
- Knowledge in using multiple tools in analyzing signals using a spectrum analyzer and an oscilloscope
- Proficient in MS Office Applications (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS Project)
- Work within an integrated government/contractor team
- Bachelor's degree in electrical, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or related fields
- Skilled with test equipment like multimeters, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and vector network analyzers
- Familiar with Linux applications like command line (terminal) interface, creating and executing shell scripts, debugging utilities, and general file system navigation
- Familiar with programming languages like Python or Matlab to perform data parsing, analysis, and test automation
- Strong root cause analysis skills
- Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, communication, and organization skills
- Currently possesses and can maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
Qualifications
- 3+ years of relevant industry experience with emphasis on hardware, software, and/or system validation and verification testing
- BS degree in engineering with at least 10 years of EW/RF-related experience
