POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a strategic and technically adept Sr Electronic Engineer that will perform engineering work in applied research, design, development, test, prototyping and documentation on multiple key projects. Uses research techniques to analyze and validate design or theory concepts. Interacts with senior level professionals both internal and external to AE.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Technology Solutions and design according to power conversion platform requirements
- Work closely with Advanced Engineering on technologies and solutions that drive performance such as conversion efficiency, power density, power level scaling
- Actively involved in design conceptualization, mechanical packaging, drive schematic generation and PCB layout, and manage critical parts list of product technology platform
- Create solutions to optimize performance and cost trade-offs
- Create simulation models, prepare design calculations for sizing up of magnetics and semicons, and correlate with actual performance
- Conduct circuit breadboarding/fine-tuning, power-up, testing and verification of design parameters
- Prepare thorough documentation on new technology blocks and theory of operation
- Collaborate with Design Teams and ensure successful technology transfer
- Design Process Improvement and Continuous Learning
- Initiate design and development calculation tools, simulation worksheets
- Develop strategies for effectively evaluating new technologies to surface potential weaknesses, include test for margins, prepare detailed design test results
- Participate in project discussions and design reviews
- Cross-functional work with Mechanical Engineer Tech Core, Thermal Engineer, PCAD, Safety, Design Team Electrical Engineer
QUALIFICATIONS
- Switch-mode power supply topologies
- Proficiency in Altium or similar schematic capture and PCB design tools
- Transformer and inductor design
- Proficient in analog and digital circuit design
- Knowledge of DFM and DFT
- Knowledge of PCB design strategies, grounding schemes, and layer stackup
- Knowledge of wide bandgap devices
- Strong communication skills
- Team player in a multicultural, multidisciplinary environment with a strong sense of ownership
EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years of relevant work experience
- Experience in switch-mode power supply design
- Experience using simulation and calculation tools (Simplis/Simetrix, Mathcad; PLECS/PSIM a plus)
- Experience in power component selection, testing, and qualification
- Experience with test software development (LabVIEW, C, C# a plus)
- Experience bringing a product from concept to mass production
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics and Communications Engineering
COMPENSATION
As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $110,000 to $150,000 per year.
