About the role
A Senior Electrical Engineer develops and documents electrical and avionics systems designs in a cross-functional engineering team. This role supports manufacturing, sales, customer service, and quality departments, focusing on high-performance electro-mechanical systems and components for aircraft entertainment, navigation, and communication systems.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed designs by analyzing product or equipment specifications, performance requirements, and existing manufacturing capabilities.
- Perform complex design, fabrication, modification, and evaluation of products using advanced engineering principles.
- Research manufacturing techniques, materials, and processes to inform long-range plant and product engineering planning.
- Conduct complex design analyses, complete documentation, and generate reports, procedures, or change proposals.
- Prepare and present results to internal and external customers, including approval of moderately complex design reports.
- Develop test plans, procedures, and reports for acceptance, engineering evaluation, development, and qualification/certification of large-scale or complex products.
- Analyze operation, test, and research data to establish performance standards for new or modified equipment.
- Investigate design factors such as manufacturability, material availability, interchangeability, replaceability, and cost to determine optimal solutions.
- Direct preparation of product design data, including detailed drawings, assembly drawings, wire diagrams, and installation drawings.
- Develop critical data and layouts to present design proposals to customers.
- Review complex drawings and layouts for clarity, completeness, and conformity to standards, identifying errors or omissions.
- Communicate with customers to understand technical requirements and convey design capabilities and organizational expertise.
- Identify new business opportunities and create technical proposals integrating product knowledge, regulatory requirements, and market strategy.
- Recommend and incorporate changes to enhance products and processes using continuous improvement methodologies.
- Lead product and process improvement initiatives across design, manufacturing, and organizational areas.
- Enhance technical knowledge through publications, courses, professional associations, and industry standards development.
- Direct or coordinate cross-functional organizational improvement initiatives.
- Provide leadership, training, and mentorship to engineers.
- Create and maintain project schedules, resources, and budgets, including milestones for assigned projects.
- Maintain a clean, organized work environment and adhere to safety standards and procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or sciences with 5+ years of experience, or a minimum of 15 years in a highly technical engineering role.
- Background in aerospace, defense, or cable assembly industries is favored.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; conversational skills in another language is a plus.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite and SharePoint; knowledge of ERP systems (SAP preferred).
- Skills in 2D and/or 3D design software.
- Knowledge of aircraft electrical and avionics systems design and regulatory certification requirements is a plus.
- Ability to utilize communication channels effectively and demonstrate strong judgment and decision-making skills.
- Flexibility to work in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment while maintaining a positive team dynamic.
- Reliability and willingness to work additional hours on short notice to meet customer demands.
- Understanding of Lean manufacturing principles preferred.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and ethical standards.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, and written instructions.
- Writing skills for completing documents and forms.
