Sr. Electrical Engineer
Position Summary
This is a high‑impact role for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer who wants to shape complex, meaningful projects from concept through completion. You’ll work on innovative building and site electrical systems across a wide range of markets, collaborating with cross‑functional teams and leading electrical design efforts with confidence and creativity.
Responsibilities
Electrical System Design — Lead the design of power, lighting, fire alarm, communications, security, IT/AV, and other low‑voltage systems for projects ranging from small renovations to large, complex facilities in life sciences, water/wastewater treatment, research, multi-family residential, healthcare, K-12 and higher education, commercial, transportation, and industrial facilities sectors.
Project Leadership — Serve as the lead electrical engineer for assigned projects, coordinating with all disciplines to deliver projects on time and within budget. Manage and mentor junior engineers and production staff throughout the design process.
Technical Mentorship — Provide guidance, training, and oversight to support the professional growth of junior team members as needed.
Code & Standards Compliance — Execute engineering tasks in accordance with client criteria, industry standards, and applicable codes.
QA/QC Oversight — Review drawings and documents for accuracy, quality, and adherence to company standards.
Cross‑Discipline Collaboration — Work closely with architects, mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, civil, water/wastewater treatment, environmental and other engineers to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems into overall project design.
Engineering Analysis — Perform calculations, simulations, and equipment selection to optimize system performance. Arc Flash, Short Circuit, Coordination, and Load Flow studies using computer software is a plus.
Site Assessments — Conduct field visits to evaluate existing systems, troubleshoot issues, and recommend improvements.
Feasibility & Risk Studies — Support early-stage project direction through feasibility analysis and performance evaluations.
CAD & Documentation — Produce sketches, drawings, and specifications using CAD and design software.
Client & Contractor Support — Respond to inquiries, review submittals, and provide construction‑phase support.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement — Research new technologies and contribute to process improvements.
Subject Matter Expertise — Serve as a technical resource for electrical engineering principles and applications.
Qualifications And Requirements
Registered Professional Engineer (PE) or ability to obtain.
B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
12+ years of electrical design experience with an A/E consulting firm or design‑build contractor, including building power (normal and emergency), lighting, and fire alarm systems. Power distribution and substation design for buildings and industrial sites including water/wastewater treatment, college campuses, hospitals, or similar. Voltages ranging from 38 kV (or higher) down to 480/277 (120/208) Volts. Experience with medium voltage distribution and equipment. In addition, experience with telecommunications, security, EV charging, solar, controls and/or IT/AV systems is a plus.
Proven project management experience from concept through construction closeout.
Familiarity with engineering analysis tools (e.g., SKM, ETAP, etc.) and with AutoCAD and Revit.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to solve complex engineering challenges.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration and client interaction.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software.
Thorough understanding of the NEC, along with familiarity with the IBC and other building codes, NFPA and other industry standards, and applicable regulations.
Ability to travel occasionally for project and/or training needs (primarily in the New Jersey tri-state area).
Field experience in electrical construction, startup and troubleshooting is a plus.
