Actalent connects visionary companies with specialized engineering and sciences talent to advance innovation and speed to market.

About the role

The Electrical Engineer leads the electrical architecture and detailed design of complex vacuum process equipment from initial concept through manufacturing release. This role converts customer, product, and regulatory requirements into clear electrical specifications that balance performance, safety, cost, and manufacturability.

The position is based in a professional office environment within a facility where manufacturing and engineering activities are performed on-site. The engineer primarily works in the office, collaborating with cross-functional teams, with occasional interaction with the manufacturing environment for design validation and integration.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical architecture and detailed design of complex vacuum process equipment from concept through manufacturing release.
  • Translate customer, product, and regulatory requirements into clear electrical specifications that balance performance, safety, cost, and manufacturability.
  • Design and release electrical schematics, assemblies, layouts, and documentation integrating power supplies, motion systems, robotics, sensors, and control hardware.
  • Resolve advanced electrical and system-level issues through structured root cause analysis across development, manufacturing, and fielded systems.
  • Set technical direction during design reviews and provide mentorship to junior engineers to improve overall design quality and consistency.
  • Partner with Mechanical, Software, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Field Service teams to ensure seamless system integration, build, and installation.
  • Plan and execute electrical tests and design of experiments, and translate test data into actionable engineering recommendations.
  • Perform PLC control cabinet design and ensure robust, compliant control solutions for industrial machinery.
  • Address obsolescence issues for parts and designs, and develop updated solutions that maintain or improve system performance.
  • Integrate power supplies, motion controllers, PLCs, and electrical interfaces into larger equipment platforms.
  • Apply working knowledge of vacuum equipment, robotics, and motion control systems to optimize system performance and reliability.
  • Ensure designs align with CE, UL, TUV, and RoHS requirements and support design-for-compliance practices.
  • Create clear documentation and presentations that distill complex technical concepts for diverse internal and external audiences.
  • Collaborate across disciplines and influence technical decisions without direct authority to drive successful project outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of capital equipment design experience, or a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with 6+ years of capital equipment design experience.
  • Demonstrated ownership of electrical design for complex electromechanical systems.
  • Professional experience using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or a comparable electrical CAD platform.
  • Advanced expertise in analog and digital circuit design, including schematic development, testing, and formal release.
  • Hands-on ability to debug electrical issues using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and component-level analysis.
  • Experience integrating power supplies, motion controllers, PLCs, and electrical interfaces into larger equipment platforms.
  • Working knowledge of vacuum equipment, robotics, and motion control systems.
  • Familiarity with CE, UL, TUV, and RoHS requirements and design for compliance practices.
  • Experience with high voltage electrical design, primarily digital, and high voltage system considerations.
  • Ability to design PLC control cabinets for industrial applications.
  • Experience with microcontrollers and motion control in industrial machinery.
  • Ability to resolve obsolescence issues for parts and designs in existing systems.
  • Skill in distilling complex technical concepts into clear documentation and presentations for diverse audiences.
  • Comfort working across disciplines and influencing decisions without direct authority.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience in electrical design for industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Digital and analog design for motion control and automation systems.
  • Exposure to robotics and advanced motion control systems used in vacuum and semiconductor process equipment.
  • Experience with PLC design and control strategies for complex equipment.
  • Ability to contribute to root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives across development, manufacturing, and fielded systems.
  • Strong collaboration skills for working with Mechanical, Software, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Field Service teams.
  • Capability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to raising overall design quality and consistency.
  • Interest in advanced semiconductor process technologies such as laser annealing, ion beam deposition and etch, CVD, single wafer etch and clean, and lithography.
  • Ability to plan and execute electrical tests and design of experiments, and to convert results into practical engineering recommendations.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $128,000 – $162,000 per year. Individual compensation offered within this range will depend on qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

Benefits
