Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical architecture and detailed design of complex vacuum process and electro-mechanical capital equipment from concept through manufacturing release
- Translate customer, product, and regulatory requirements into clear electrical specifications balancing performance, safety, cost, and manufacturability
- Design, develop, and release:
- Electrical schematics
- Assemblies and layouts
- System documentation
- Integrate systems including power supplies, motion systems, robotics, sensors, PLCs, and control hardware
- Own high-voltage electrical design (primarily digitally controlled), ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant operation
- Develop PLC control cabinet designs and ensure proper integration with industrial machinery and motion systems
- Resolve advanced electrical and system-level issues across development, manufacturing, and fielded systems using structured root cause analysis
- Plan, execute, and document electrical tests and design of experiments (DOE)
- Analyze data and translate findings into actionable engineering improvements
- Debug complex analog and digital circuits using:
- Oscilloscopes
- Logic analyzers
- Component-level analysis techniques
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering + 8+ years of capital equipment design experience OR Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering + 6+ years of capital equipment design experience
- Technical Expertise: Proven ownership of electrical design for complex electro-mechanical systems; experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar electrical CAD tools; advanced expertise in analog and digital circuit design; schematic development and release processes; hands-on debugging using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and component-level techniques; experience integrating power supplies, motion controllers, PLCs, and electrical interfaces into industrial or semiconductor systems; systems & industry knowledge in industrial machinery design experience, including motion control integration; high-voltage electrical design experience (primarily digitally controlled systems); PLC control cabinet design experience; working knowledge of vacuum equipment, robotics, motion control systems, and familiarity with CE, UL, TUV, and RoHS requirements
- Problem Solving & Communication: Strong root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills; ability to resolve complex system-level issues; excellent communication skills with ability to translate complex concepts clearly; ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority
Preferred / Additional Qualifications
- Experience with semiconductor process equipment, such as laser annealing, ion beam deposition and etch, CVD, single wafer etch and clean, lithography
- Experience in advanced industrial or capital equipment environments
- Experience managing obsolescence and implementing updated design solutions
- Proven ability to lead design reviews and technical discussions
- Strong organizational and documentation skills (configuration control and formal release processes)
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced environments with evolving priorities
