The Sr. Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist, Medium/High Voltage Safety is responsible for driving, influencing, and achieving EHS process excellence, regulatory compliance, and overall risk reduction throughout Commercial, Utility, and Charging Operations and Maintenance within North America. This role also supports the development and execution of electrical safety programs.
About the role
- Serve as a key advisor and technical expert on EHS and electrical matters, providing guidance on compliance, risk management, and MV/HV safety to business leaders, teams, contractors, and cross-functional partners across all product deployment phases
- Maintain a visible field presence through learning-focused observations, assurance activities, and regular audits; document findings, oversee adherence to EHS plans, evaluate PPE/safety equipment, and escalate non-conformances in collaboration with stakeholders
- Respond to EHS events and MV/HV incidents by analyzing root causes, developing preventive actions, promoting Human & Organizational Performance principles, and delivering detailed findings/recommendations to management and teams
- Identify operational gaps and spearhead creative, innovative EHS solutions—applying first-principles thinking—while collaborating with engineering, operations, and other stakeholders to address electrical and broader safety challenges
- Lead EHS meetings to communicate improvements, learnings, performance metrics, and best practices; actively engage in field activities to educate, train, and empower teams on risk minimization aligned with Tesla's vision and values
- Continuously improve safety protocols for global energy storage systems, balance of plant, and charging networks, ensuring compliance with international standards, regulatory requirements, and industry advancements
- Support the development of specialized training on MV/HV electrical safety, arc flash mitigation, and safe work practices; offer field assistance for challenges like shock hazards, while staying updated on emerging technologies and regulations to drive innovation
Responsibilities

Requirements
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in MV/HV electrical safety, preferably in energy storage, renewable energy, or EV charging infrastructure. Proven track record of supporting engineering teams in fast-paced, high-performance environments, with at least 3+ years of hands-on experience with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and MV/HV power distribution
- Deep knowledge of MV/HV electrical systems, including transformers, switchgear, inverters, and grid interconnection standards. Familiarity with energy storage systems, microgrids, and EV charging infrastructure is a plus
- Proficient in developing and implementing safety programs compliant with regulatory requirements, along with a deep understanding of Electrical Standards (OSHA, NFPA 70-E, IEEE, NEC) and practical experience with energized equipment in industrial settings
- Capable of adapting to a fast-paced, globally expanding organization using a 'first-principles' approach, coupled with strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting across senior management, regulators, frontline workers, and third-party clients
- Excellent interpersonal abilities, attention to detail, problem-solving expertise, the capacity to multitask and prioritize in a dynamic environment, and the ability to work independently and as a proactive, creative team player
- Proven skills in managing complex, multidisciplinary projects and assignments with accountability for outcomes, including experience in training and educating employees in EHS initiatives
- Demonstrated experience in applying governmental and regulatory EHS regulations in various settings, strong problem-solving abilities, effective relationship-building and influencing skills at all management levels, and proficiency in MS Office 365 Suite

Expected Compensation $76,000 - $162,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
