About the role

The Plant Senior EHS Specialist will support and promote safe practices in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements. They will act as an OSHA and EPA regulatory compliance resource, lead incident investigations, conduct risk and hazard assessments, establish continuous improvement in safety monitoring systems, develop safety action plans, facilitate training, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental policies.

Responsibilities

  • Supports and promotes safe practices in alignment with company commitments, policies, and compliance requirements.
  • Acts as an OSHA and EPA regulatory compliance resource.
  • Led or participates in incident investigations (injury, property damage, near-hit, environmental deviations, etc.) and root cause analysis.
  • Works with the plant operations team to determine appropriate corrective/preventative action.
  • Establishes and drives continuous improvement in the facility's safety monitoring and recordkeeping systems.
  • Develops action plans for safety activities, coordinates the plant Safety Committee team, performs follow-up, and reports status to the Plant Manager.
  • Facilitates safety, health and environmental training for all plant personnel.
  • Serves as training coordinator for all EHS-related trainings through SafetySkills and other computer-based training (CBT).

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety and Health, Environmental or equivalent degree.
  • Prior Safety Specific Training (OSHA 30 Hour, Certificate in Occupational Safety & Health, etc.).
  • Seven or more years of experience in a safety and/or environmental role in an industrial setting.
  • Comfortable working in a plant environment.
  • One or more of the following criteria:
    • Served as the EHS Leader of the site for a minimum of three years.
    • Recognized by the Company as a Subject Matter Expert in a specific EHS discipline.

Qualifications

  • Professional Certifications in Safety, Environmental or Occupational Health (e.g. CSP, CIH, OHST, SMS, CEM, CHMM, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of federal safety and environmental laws (e.g. OSHA, EPA, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Ability to work with respective outside agencies and contracted employees.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, extensive walking, confined spaces, wear a respirator (if applicable), and handle exposures to hot/cold environments.
  • Excellent communication, training and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated Root-Cause analysis skills (RCCA, 5-Whys).
  • Leadership skills to direct personnel, implement initiatives, supervising teams, and performing follow-up activities.
  • Analytical ability to assess complex situations and apply problem solving strategies.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to be on call, as needed 24/7.
  • Ability to travel up to 5%.
  • Willing to consider less experience, however would come in as a EH&S Specialist, minimum requirement is Bachelor’s degree in Safety & Health and/or Environmental or equivalent degree; 4 or more years of experience in a safety and/or environmental role in an industrial setting.

  • Ability to use a variety of software applications to analyze, monitor data, create reports, and presentations.

$96,000.00 - $132,000.00 Annual
