About the role
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, thorough, and prompt. This individual will be responsible for providing support in driving safe operations in manufacturing, laboratory, and corporate office environments.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of environmental and safety compliance programs at our Richmond, VA facilities to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations (e.g. OSHA, EPA, DOT).
- Administer, track and monitor status of human factors-based training and OSHA regulatory training programs across all facilities.
- Conduct regular assessments of workplace hazards and evaluate risk levels.
- Investigate incidents, identifying root causes and potential solutions, and document in standard formats.
- Create and update EHS policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
- Establish and implement training programs for employees on EHS protocols, emergency response, and safe work practices.
- Champion safety culture, encourage employee involvement in EHS matters, promote best practices, organize safety committee meetings, lead and participate in safety campaigns.
- Track and report of EHS KPIs including incident rates and compliance levels.
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting of workplace injuries and illnesses to OSHA.
- Conduct routine audits and inspections to ensure adherence to EHS standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate EHS considerations into all aspects of operations.
- Use specialized software for EHS record keeping, collaboration, and reporting.
- Travel to other company locations for support as needed.
- Submit Worker’s Compensation claims as needed.
- Provide support outside of business hours when essential.
- Coordinate post-accident drug screening.
- Assist with determining reasonable physical accommodations as necessary.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, or significant similar professional experience preferred.
- 5+ years of safety experience in a manufacturing environment or similar.
- 5+ years of experience in manufacturing leadership or management.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Capacity for fast-paced work and adaptability to change.
- Self-directed learning and retention of training.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience with behavioral-based safety programs.
- Expert knowledge of both state and federal OSHA safety regulations.
- Willingness to travel 5-10% of the time.
