Sr. Distinguished Engineer, Front End (Angular)

About the role

The role of a Sr. Distinguished Engineer at Capital One involves leading the technical vision for Capital One's web platform ecosystem. This includes defining and driving the technical vision, leading architectural decisions for large-scale platform integrations and migrations, establishing AI-native development standards and practices, and driving measurable improvement in developer experience and platform NPS.

Responsibilities

• Act as a role model and mentor within the tech community, helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community
• Define and drive the technical vision for Capital One’s web platform domain, spanning authenticated servicing, marketing/acquisition, and design system capabilities
• Lead architectural decisions for large-scale platform integrations and migrations, ensuring long-term platform health while meeting delivery commitments
• Establish AI-native development standards and practices for web platforms, including agentic tooling, machine-consumable architecture, and AI-assisted delivery workflows
• Drive measurable improvement in developer experience and platform NPS across enterprise inner source contributors
• Partner with product, design, and engineering leadership to align technical strategy with business priorities across lines of business

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree
• At least 9 years of experience in Enterprise architecture and design patterns on front end technologies - Angular, React
• At least 9 years of Software engineering and solution architecture and Software specializations
• At least 7 years of experience in Cloud computing (AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud)
• At least 7 years of experience in Web technologies (Javascript, TypeScript and SPA frameworks)
• Full ML development lifecycle using AI and ML frameworks
• Designing and building distributed HPC and ML systems
• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering and solution architecture
• 10+ years of professional experience coding in commonly used languages like Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Swift, etc.
• 10+ years of professional experience in the full lifecycle of system development, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment and production support
• Experience leading technical strategy for large-scale web platforms serving millions of users
• Deep expertise in modern web frameworks (React, Angular), design systems, web performance, and accessibility
• Experience defining and driving engineering standards across distributed, inner source contributor models
• Familiarity with AI-native development patterns, agentic tooling, or ML-assisted software delivery

Pay

Salaries for this role vary by location. For example, in McLean, VA, the minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are $314,800 - $359,300 for Sr Distinguished Engineer.
