Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the global sourcing strategy across all critical spend categories (raw materials, components, indirects, and capital equipment) to support production scale-up and long-term business objectives.
- Partner with executive leadership on Make vs. Buy decisions, capacity planning, and technology sourcing strategies aligned with multi-year operational and financial plans.
- Lead the design and optimization of a global supply chain network that meets the factory’s requirements for capacity, quality, cost, resilience, and regionalization.
- Establish long-term global supply base strategies that mitigate risk and support aggressive production ramp schedules.
- Build and lead strategic partnerships with top-tier global suppliers, establishing executive engagement models, multi-year agreements, and joint improvement roadmaps.
- Serve as the highest-level escalation point for supplier performance, delivery, and quality risks.
- Oversee sourcing, negotiation, and lifecycle management of all capital equipment needed for gigafactory construction, ramp, and expansion.
- Ensure supplier readiness and on-time delivery of critical equipment to meet installation, commissioning, and production targets.
- Work closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Finance, and NPI teams to align sourcing strategies with product design, technology selection, manufacturing yields, and cost targets.
- Influence corporate strategic planning through cost-modeling insights, supply risk assessments, and market intelligence.
- Lead supplier engagement for new materials, technologies, and equipment supporting product development and factory expansion.
- Ensure sourcing decisions accelerate time-to-market while ensuring manufacturability, quality, and cost competitiveness.
- Lead executive-level negotiations for long-term agreements, technology licenses, capital contracts, and global sourcing frameworks.
- Partner with Legal and Contracts teams to establish robust commercial terms that protect the business and drive strategic advantage.
- Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing global sourcing organization, including category leaders, regional sourcing teams, and supplier development specialists.
- Foster a culture of operational rigor, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Travel globally, often on short notice, to engage suppliers, assess capabilities, and resolve critical supply, quality, or equipment issues.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, or related field.
- 12–15+ years of progressive global supply chain leadership experience in high-tech, advanced manufacturing, EV, battery, semiconductor, or similar industries.
- Proven experience leading enterprise-level sourcing strategies with multimillion- to multibillion-dollar spend responsibility.
- Demonstrated success negotiating complex long-term agreements, capital equipment contracts, and global category strategies.
- Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate at C-suite level and influence cross-functional leadership teams.
- Experience managing global teams and driving high-impact supplier partnerships.
