About YPO
YPO is a global leadership community of 35,000+ chief executives across 142 countries, built on peer learning, shared experiences, and trusted relationships. YPO’s digital transformation is building a platform where members discover relevant peers/events, understand why they see what they see, control their data, and trust every interaction. At the core is a layered Trust Stack - a data and intelligence platform where APIs act as the stable, semantic connective tissue across the ecosystem.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Sr. Developer, APIs to design, build, and maintain the API platform powering YPO’s Member ecosystem, Chapter operations, and Agentic AI platform. You will own technical implementation end-to-end. You will write production-quality code and partner with Product, Data, IT, and Security to deliver scalable, secure, governed solutions. This role requires deep backend expertise, strong API design instincts, and the ability to translate complex integrations into robust, maintainable systems within an event-driven, serverless-first architecture.
Responsibilities
- API Design & Implementation
- Design and build REST/GraphQL APIs (AWS API Gateway), stable and decoupled from backend schemas
- Apply event-driven patterns (CDC, Kafka, EventBridge) and idempotent design
- Use Domain-Driven Design (DDD) to define clear API boundaries
- Leverage serverless-first architecture (Lambda, Step Functions)
- Define data models, versioning, auth (OAuth2, Auth0, Okta)
- Implement performance controls (pagination, caching, rate limiting)
- Agentic Ecosystem Engineering
- Implement API governance for AI agents (OpenAI + RAG + Gemini)
- Ensure agents use approved APIs only; no raw data access
- Support structured retrieval, provenance, deterministic fallback
- Build governed API boundaries and enable observability
- API Lifecycle & Governance
- Own lifecycle: build, test, document, version, deprecate
- Enforce versioning, backward compatibility, breaking-change policy
- Ensure CI/CD pipelines, observability (Datadog), uptime SLAs
- All infrastructure via Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/CDK)
Your API Portfolio
- Member API (identity, peer discovery, graph)
- Chapter API (operations, events, access)
- Agentic APIs (governed APIs for AI agents)
Requirements
- 6–8+ years backend/API engineering experience
- Strong REST/GraphQL design, contracts, versioning
- AWS API Gateway, serverless architecture (Lambda, Step Functions)
- Event-driven systems (Kafka, EventBridge, CDC)
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or AWS CDK)
- OAuth2, Auth0/Okta
- Domain-Driven Design (DDD)
- Performance optimization (caching, pagination, rate limiting)
- GDPR/CCPA and consent-aware systems
- Strong cross-functional communication
- Active use of AI dev tools (Copilot, Cursor)
