Sr. Database Site Reliability Engineer (DB SRE)

About the role

This role will lead technical work focused on secure, reliable systems and risk-aware execution, working across engineering, product, operations, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into practical technology solutions. The position offers the opportunity to influence architecture, execution quality, and the technology capabilities that enable long-term growth within a life sciences environment.

Responsibilities

• Own and continuously improve the reliability, availability, and performance of Azure PostgreSQL platforms
• Design, build, and operate cloud database infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform)
• Apply SRE principles to stateful systems, including environment isolation and blast-radius reduction
• Define and implement database observability using enterprise monitoring tools
• Lead incident response for database-related production issues
• Troubleshoot complex issues across performance, replication, connectivity, and permissions
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design scalable, secure database architectures

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred; relevant experience considered in lieu of degree
• Typically 7+ years of relevant experience in SRE, platform, or infrastructure engineering roles
• 7+ years hands-on experience operating PostgreSQL databases in cloud environments (Azure strongly preferred)
• Strong production experience supporting high-availability, business-critical database platforms
• Deep expertise with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform
• Solid knowledge of cloud security principles, including least-privilege access

Pay

Compensation: $132,400 – $220,600 annually
