About the role

This position is based at One Village Center Drive, Van Buren Township, MI 48111, with no travel required. The role involves developing and deploying advanced motion planning, control algorithms, and ADAS functionalities within a cross-functional team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, deploy, and evaluate motion planning and control algorithms.
  • Develop longitudinal and lateral controllers for drive-by-wire vehicles in low and high-speed domains.
  • Conduct vehicle system identification experiments, parameter estimation, and controller KPI analysis.
  • Implement Kalman filters for vehicle state estimation.
  • Utilize CAN tools (Vector) for vehicle communication data analysis and DBC file handling.
  • Develop software using model-based design (MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, dSpace) and generate C/C++ code.
  • Work with Linux, ROS tools, and DDS-compliant publisher-subscriber protocols in static network environments.
  • Perform advanced data analysis using MATLAB and Excel.
  • Understand and contribute to L2/L3 ADAS functions and the end-to-end ADAS pipeline (sensors, perception, SLAM, fusion, planning).
  • Develop and deploy software on embedded ADAS platforms, including heterogeneous SoCs and mixed-criticality systems.
  • Conduct HIL/SIL simulations for rapid prototyping using tools like IPG CarMaker, VTD, and Carla.
  • Use hardware such as Kistler and Novatel systems for ground-truthing sensors and data acquisition.
  • Analyze customer requirements and derive detailed feature-level requirements for software development.
  • Document software design and interface with cross-functional teams (planning, fusion, etc.).
  • Apply functional safety concepts (ISO 26262, SEooC, SOTIF) and regulatory requirements (NCAP, GSR, NHTSA).
  • Test software by driving and evaluating drive-by-wire vehicles.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience in control theory (PID, nonlinear techniques, optimal), system modeling, simulation, and vehicle dynamics.
  • Experience with Model Predictive Control (MPC) for obstacle avoidance.
  • Experience in developing and testing speed control for lead vehicle following and yaw control for path tracking.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams, particularly in ADAS and vision applications.

Must have the legal right to work in the U.S.
