Sr. Cost Accountant Manager

CFS is partnering with a growing company in Niles to hire a hands-on leader who will oversee cost accounting operations, manage variance analysis, inventory valuation, and provide insights that drive profitability. The role is ideal for someone who excels in a leadership capacity, enjoys mentoring cost accounting staff, and is comfortable working directly with financial data and process improvements.

About the role

This position is fully in-office in Niles, MI.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly and quarterly cost accounting close, including materials, labor, overhead, and inventory cost reconciliation.
• Perform detailed variance analyses (actual vs standard) and recommend corrective actions.
• Oversee cost of goods sold (COGS) reporting, product costing, and margin analysis.
• Manage inventory valuation methods and physical inventory reconciliations.
• Develop and maintain internal controls related to costing, inventory, and manufacturing operations.
• Partner with production, purchasing, operations, and finance teams to optimize cost structure and cost flows.
• Mentor, train, and supervise cost accounting staff; ensure consistency and accuracy of cost accounting practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive cost accounting / manufacturing accounting experience, including supervisory or lead responsibilities.
• Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in variance analysis, product costing, and inventory accounting.
• Experience using major ERP or cost accounting systems; strong Excel skills mandatory.
• Excellent communication skills; able to present cost findings to leadership and non-finance teams.

Pay

$95,000 ‒ $115,000 annually
