The Controls Engineer for the Remanufacturing team will be commissioning, troubleshooting, and programming automated equipment systems, robot applications, conveyor systems, vision systems, and process/equipment monitoring components. In addition, they will collaborate with the maintenance team to identify, fix, and improve equipment and controls related failures.

What You'll Do

  • Program and debug structure text and ladder logic code on multiple PLC controller platforms (Beckhoff, TwinCAT, and Allen Bradley Rockwell platform)
  • Develop code that is organized, structured, documented, maintainable, and reusable, uses complex electrical schematics and blueprints to troubleshoot and correct problems, implements and enforces Tesla equipment safety standards into the manufacturing equipment, including periodic checks and qualification inspections
  • Set up and tune servo drives and VFDs for fast and smooth operation (Schneider, PowerFlex, Beckhoff, Siemens, SEW)
  • Create intuitive operator touchscreen interfaces using MappView/TwinCAT HMI and SCADA dashboards screens using Ignition
  • Lead controls commissioning efforts for more than seven different manufacturing lines, support and assist maintenance team in troubleshooting difficult breakdowns and chronic equipment failures related to control systems
  • Maintain and program state machines for complex processes which involve conveyor processing, multi-station parallel processing, data acquisition
  • Overall responsibility for controls related activities in the production shop, leading and assisting production and maintenance in all controls related topics and issues
  • Develop and maintain Ignition projects and gateway, which included scripting API calls to web applications, managing database connections and named queries, and configuring OPC device connections
  • Develop and maintain proper documentation of all electrical equipment and associated procedures, making updates as required by modifications, identify weak areas of the production systems using root cause analysis and first principles thinking and implement effective countermeasures using all available means

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronic, Manufacturing, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 1-3 years of experience in mechanical/electrical systems and custom machine-building
  • Expertise in SolidWorks, automation systems, PLCs, robotics, and electromechanical components
  • Familiarity with DFM, OEE, process validation, welding, CNC, and pneumatic systems
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Passionate about optimizing manufacturing equipment and processes, and be hands-on in manufacturing environment
