About the role
This position will be located at our Corporate Office: 2355 W Pinnacle Peak Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85027. It has the authority to approve and/or decline consumer loan requests, including Home Equity loan products. The role operates in a call center environment in partnership with our branches, handling consumer loan applications from online sources, Credit Union branches, indirect channels, and direct calls from members and dealerships.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with management to ensure expected service levels to members and internal associates are met.
- Assist in the training of department personnel to ensure service levels, policy, and procedures are understood and implemented.
- Promote partnership and team-building between Consumer Loan Fulfillment, branches, and other business areas; resolve issues and maintain effective communications.
- Request applicant credit reports, background checks, reference checks, and other pertinent information for loan evaluation.
- Analyze applicant financial status, credit, and asset evaluation to determine feasibility of granting a loan or submit applications to management for verification and recommendation.
- Resolve uncertainties relating to member application information through inquiries with applicants or creditors.
- Approve loans within specified limits or refer loans to Consumer Loan Fulfillment management for approval.
- Underwrite consumer direct loans, including vehicle loans, recreational loans, indirect loans, unsecured loans, share secured loans, credit cards, and home equity products.
- Confirm accuracy of income, indebtedness, ratios, loan-to-value, and calculations necessary for final loan decisions.
- Refer loans to management if the loan amount exceeds authorized lending authority.
- Work closely with processing, closing, funding, and quality assurance to ensure members benefit from loan products.
- Compile loan packages and facilitate negotiation of loan structure with applicants, including fees, repayment options, and other credit terms.
- Communicate underwriting decisions in writing to members/branches and follow up on questions regarding decisions.
- Educate branches and/or members on steps to ensure credit quality and future approvals.
- Assist in training new Consumer Loan Fulfillment team associates and branch lending associates as assigned by leadership.
- Ensure loan agreements are complete, accurate, and in compliance with policy.
- Advise loan managers of external factors affecting established lending policies, such as new or revised legislation, and recommend appropriate changes.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of all federal and state regulations governing consumer lending, including real estate lending regulations.
- Maintain knowledge of all Credit Union departments and their interaction with the Retail Lending and Consumer Loan Fulfillment teams.
- Provide loan data to support marketing and sales promotion programs.
- Assume responsibilities across all areas of Consumer Loan Fulfillment as volume dictates, including inbound calls from branches, dealers, and members; follow-ups on loan decisions; setting loan closing appointments; and equity loan processing.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in relevant fields preferred.
- 5 to 8 years of similar or related experience, with a minimum of five years in consumer loan underwriting.
- Strong working knowledge of industry-standard loan programs being offered.

Pay
Target hiring range: $27.32/hr. - $34.15/hr. (depending on experience and prior to any incentives this position is eligible for).
