About the role
We are currently seeking a Sr. Construction Inspector to join our Columbus or Cincinnati offices. This is a field-based position ideal for an experienced inspector who brings strong technical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively with contractors, engineers, and public agencies—particularly within ODOT and municipal environments.
Responsibilities
- Perform inspection of transportation and civil infrastructure construction activities, including earthwork, concrete placement, drainage systems, asphalt paving, structural components, and utility installations.
- Conduct field and laboratory testing of construction materials to verify compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Document daily construction activities, maintain detailed field reports, and communicate inspection results and non-conformance issues.
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and construction schedules to ensure work meets design intent.
- Verify contractor quantities and support payment applications.
- Cook up with engineers, contractors, and public agencies to resolve field issues and maintain alignment with project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior inspectors and technicians.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and assist with project closeout activities.
- Monitor job site safety and report unsafe conditions or compliance issues.
- Support overall construction management efforts to ensure successful project delivery.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5+ years of experience in construction inspection or construction materials testing.
- Experience working on ODOT or municipal infrastructure projects preferred.
- Relevant certifications may include: ACI Level I Certification, ODOT or equivalent certifications (e.g., Asphalt, Concrete, Aggregate, Grade Technician), NICET (a plus), Structural Inspection certifications (preferred).
- A strong understanding of construction methods, specifications, codes, and safety practices.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and field documentation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work independently and make sound field decisions.
- A valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
