Sr Commissioning Manager (Mission Critical Hyperscaler)
Position Summary
The Sr. Commissioning Manager leads the full commissioning program on hyperscale data center construction, from construction turnover through L1–L5 integrated systems testing and client Final Handover (FHO).
Responsibilities
- Leads the commissioning staffing plan, Cx schedule, and budget for the full program. Recruits, assigns, and evaluates Cx Engineers and field technicians across multiple simultaneous buildings.
- Develops and maintains the master Commissioning Execution Plan (CEP) per building, integrated with the P6 program schedule. Leads all critical path activities from systems completion through Final Handover (FHO).
- Manages the Cx risk register across the program. Escalates schedule or technical risks to the Program Director and client Commissioning Authority (CA) with mitigation plans and recovery dates.
- Leads and executes L1 through L5 commissioning testing across all electrical and mechanical systems, including generator load bank testing, UPS paralleling, STS/ATS transfer testing, chiller plant sequencing, and BMS/EPMS integration verification, and client-witnessed Integrated Systems Tests (ISTs).
- Manages Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSRs) and client acceptance walks at each ROMP milestone gate. Delivers Certificate of Readiness (COR) packages per client milestone requirements (NEA, H2C, pFHO, FHO).
- Collaborates with the Project Controls lead to incorporate Cx milestone dates into the program's P6 schedule and GCA contractual milestone tracking, flagging delay risk to critical path ROMP milestones within 48 hours of identification.
Required Knowledge, Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline; or 10+ years of mission critical commissioning experience with demonstrated hyperscale data center program delivery.
- Minimum of 3 hyperscale data center programs (100MW+ campus or equivalent) as Cx Manager or Sr. Cx Engineer, including at least one Tier III or Tier IV facility through client Final Handover (FHO).
- Expert-level knowledge of mission critical electrical systems: medium voltage distribution, generators, UPS, static transfer switches, PDUs, and busduct. Working knowledge of mechanical systems: chilled water plants, CRAH/CRAC units, cooling towers, and BMS/EPMS.
- Proficiency with commissioning management platforms (Procore Cx, Cx Alloy, or equivalent owner-specified tool). Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, P&IDs, sequences of operation, and protection relay settings.
- Familiarity with hyperscaler client commissioning standards and ROMP milestone frameworks, with direct experience navigating client Commissioning Authority review and acceptance processes.
- Current OSHA 30 Safety Training certificate and NFPA 70E Arc Flash Safety certification required. RCDD, CEM, or BICSI Data Center Design certifications preferred. P6 scheduling proficiency preferred.
Work Environment / Job Conditions
Program-based assignment structure with full-time on-site presence required during active commissioning phases, supporting concurrent commissioning activities across 2+ buildings on a multi-building hyperscale campus.
Field-dominant during L1–L5 test execution phases and office-based during planning and documentation windows. Appropriate field attire is required for hot and cold environments.
Candidates must be comfortable working in energized electrical environments and comply with all site-specific PPE and arc flash boundary requirements at all times.
