About the Role
The Senior Commercial Trucking Claims Adjuster manages complex and high-exposure trucking claims, including catastrophic bodily injury, fatalities, large-loss cargo claims, and multi-vehicle accidents. This role requires deep technical expertise in trucking operations, regulatory compliance, and litigation strategy, along with leadership in claim resolution and mentoring.
Responsibilities
- Handle high-severity trucking claims, including catastrophic injury, wrongful death, and complex liability exposures
- Lead in-depth investigations involving accident reconstruction, black box (ECM) data, telematics, and expert analysis
- Evaluate regulatory compliance issues (FMCSA/DOT), including hours-of-service violations and safety records
- Interpret complex policy language, endorsements (e.g., MCS-90), and layered coverage programs
- Establish and proactively manage significant claim reserves
- Negotiate high-value settlements within expanded authority levels
- Direct litigation strategy in partnership with defense counsel; actively participate in mediations and trials
- Identify and pursue subrogation and risk transfer opportunities
- Detect fraud schemes unique to trucking (e.g., staged accidents, cargo theft rings)
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in commercial trucking claims
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to adjusters; assist with file reviews and audits
- Collaborate with underwriting, safety, and risk management teams on loss trends and prevention strategies
- Support catastrophic response and complex claim escalation processes
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
- 10+ years of commercial auto/trucking claims experience
- 10+ years experience with severe bodily injury and litigation preferred

Licensing Requirements
- Active adjuster’s license as required by jurisdiction
- Multi-state licensing capability required
