About the role

This role is part of the team defining the overall communication system and architecture of Amazon Leo’s broadband wireless network. The Systems Engineer will lead the effort in designing and developing advanced technology and solutions for communication system. They will also develop advanced physical layer + protocol stacks systems as proof of concept and reference implementation to improve the performance and reliability of the LEO network.

Responsibilities

  • Define and implement communication system architecture and design
  • Develop and analyze advanced physical layer and protocol stacks systems
  • Lead the development of simulation tools with emphasis on physical layer aspects
  • Drive the integration and verification of various hardware and software sub-systems
  • Contribute to the innovation and definition of groundbreaking wireless technology at global scale

Requirements

  • PhD or Master's degree and 5+ years of quantitative field research experience
  • 5+ years professional experience working in wireless communications at the system or implementation level
  • Deep understanding of multiple access systems such as OFDMA, TDMA, CDMA, etc.
  • Experience in test automation setup and scripting languages such as Python/Perl/Matlab
  • Experience with software defined radios and embedded programming in C/C++ and VHDL/Verilog
  • Deep understanding on 3GPP L1 physical layer and high layer protocols such as RLC, RRC, MAC
  • Ability to work in a small team and drive to go beyond expectations to deliver results
  • Broad spectrum of knowledge to understand end-to-end network system architecture from wireless physical layer all the way up to application end-point
  • Implementation experience with wireless synchronization and parameter sensing techniques such as ranging/positioning based on signaling
  • Low-power design expertise
  • Wireless communication systems or digital signal processing background
  • Industry experience developing PHY/MAC layer software targeting embedded multicore processors in C/C++
  • Experience with Lab test equipment such as channel emulator, spectrum analyzers and Signal and network traffic generators
  • Experience with leading technical initiatives and key deliverables

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship or national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
