Sr Colo Mechanical Standards Engineer, Colocation Design Standards
About the role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. As a Colo Design Standards Engineer, you will drive design and availability consistency across our colocation data centers, working with global teams and partners to set and update standards for colocation capacity.
This role has global impact, focusing on continuous improvement of third-party designs through the creation of standards. You will collaborate with leaders and Principal Engineers in the Colo engineering team and across AWS to ensure equivalent resilience in colocation data centers compared to AWS-owned sites.
Up to 25% international travel is required.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain consistent colocation design standards to drive equivalent resilience in colocation data centers to AWS-owned sites.
- Support the deployment of new AWS products in colocation data centers in a consistent way.
- Input into global design standards and generational data center template designs.
- Work with regional colo engineering teams to review and accept proposed changes to site-specific infrastructure against AWS data center standards.
- Collaborate with global colocation partners to drive consistent standard solutions, expedite review processes, and improve cost efficiency.
- Drive key global colocation initiatives.
- Document, release, and manage design guides, standards, specifications, and procedures.
Qualifications
- 6+ years of data center design, construction, operations, or facility maintenance experience.
- 6+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission-critical facilities, including but not limited to: data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field.
- Knowledge of critical data center mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineering or Architectural License.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region.
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production.
- Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents.

Pay
Base salary range: $136,600.00 - $184,800.00 USD annually (USA, VA, Herndon). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
About the team
The Colocation Design Standards (CoDeS) team drives the global standardization of technical solutions for AWS Colocation (colo) sites. The team owns the creation and update of engineering standards for colo sites, following the performance objectives set in AWS Basis of Design (BoD) and creating standards for colocation-specific technology. The team also provides technical support for AWS product colo readiness to enable efficient deployment.
