About the role

The Senior Cardio Catheterization Technician performs a variety of technical and supportive patient care tasks to assist physicians in performing complex invasive cardiac catheterization procedures and surgeries. Duties include inserting small catheters into blood vessels and into the heart, ensuring EKG equipment is in good working order, monitoring EKG readouts, positioning patients, preparing them for procedures, assisting during open-heart surgery, and inserting pacemakers or stents. Other responsibilities include performing quality control functions, preparing and setting up medical supplies using aseptic techniques, adhering to University and unit-level policies and procedures, and safeguarding University assets.

Responsibilities

  • Inserts small catheters through a needle into the blood vessels and into the heart
  • Takes x-rays, angiograms, and other recordings to determine the heart's structure and function
  • Ensures the EKG equipment is in good working order
  • Maintains EKG readouts and alerts the doctor to any abnormalities
  • Positions patients and explains procedures
  • Cleans, shaves, and anesthetizes the area of insertion before procedures
  • Aids physicians during open-heart surgery and with the insertion of pacemakers or stents
  • Performs quality control functions
  • Prepares and sets up medical supplies using aseptic techniques
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures
  • Safeguards University assets

Requirements

Minimum qualifications include an associate degree or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience. Additional requirements include skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail, ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work under pressure, ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion, commitment to the University’s core values, and ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
