Sr. Business System Consultant - Payer & Health System

About the role
As part of the US Commercial organization, this role is responsible for execution of Market Access data strategies across Immunology, Neuroscience, and Specialty portfolio, working in collaboration with leaders from Brand Marketing, Market Access Strategy, Digital Lab, Internal Agency, Analytics, and external partners. The position supports the strategic and tactical needs of the Market Access organization, proactively seeking out strategic business opportunities and providing advice, assistance, and leadership in areas associated with the planning, procurement, provision, delivery, management, maintenance, and effective business use of payer and health system information systems.
Lead a team of project managers, business systems consultants (BSCs), and business systems analysts (BSAs) to analyze business processes; elicit, analyze, and document business requirements; test and validate solution enhancements; identify alternative solutions, assess feasibility, and make recommendations—typically seeking to exploit and leverage new or existing technology components.
Responsibilities
- Work with business unit partners to understand specific business processes, business drivers, and business strategy across Market Access functions; identify and communicate resulting needs and opportunities for business process improvement that can be enabled via technology.
- Investigate and understand capabilities of existing systems and technologies already in use across the business area and similar and interconnected business areas in AbbVie; investigate available technologies.
- Identify information required to support the Market Access business strategy and lead the development of appropriate information management strategies, integrating them as part of the business strategy.
- Identify, propose, initiate, and lead significant improvement programs across multiple business areas, establishing requirements for implementing changes in business functions, processes, organizational roles, and technology scope.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.
- Proactively seek strategic business opportunities for applying new or existing technology capabilities across Market Access business areas, providing key opinion-leading clients with comprehensive strategic analyses and insights.
- Establish and maintain high-quality relationships with all levels across the company and with external partners.
- Develop business relationships and integrate activities with Brand, Market Access, Patient Services, and Finance partners to ensure successful implementation, effective communication, and support of project efforts.
- Responsible for review and approval of data specifications, solution architecture, process flows, and data sharing with AbbVie internal Privacy, Compliance, and OEC teams.
- Drive coordination with AbbVie to obtain timely reviews and approvals from external partners.
- Broker services within Business Technology Solutions (BTS) on behalf of customers; coordinate portfolio of solutions and identify interdependencies.
- Align with other Business Technology Officers (BTOs) to remain current on project status and inform customer management of progress; keep BTS managers aware of user issues and resolve conflicts.
- Identify the impact of any relevant statutory, internal, or external regulations on the organization's use of information.
- Work independently with external stakeholders to manage third-party agreements, supplier evaluation, and compliance with AbbVie data policies and financial processes.
- Responsible for data contracting and working with Legal and Purchasing organizations to finalize contracts with data suppliers, analytic partners, and vendor partners.
- Have defined authority and responsibility for Market Access applications and related Payer & Health System data and vendor partnerships, including technical, financial, and quality aspects.
- Establish organizational objectives and delegate assignments; accountable for actions and decisions taken by self and subordinates.
- Accountable for the accuracy of proposed business process improvements and the technical solution fit to business needs and the information used for business justification and prioritization decisions.
- Support training on data products owned by the team.
- Learn best practices of market access, formulary & claims data, payer spine processing, data integration, aggregation, reporting, and data quality monitoring; propose ideas to streamline and improve existing processes and frameworks.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree with 8 years’ experience; Master’s Degree with 7 years’ experience; PhD with 3 years’ experience.
- Exercises latitude in approach to problem-solving; work checked through consultation and agreement with others rather than formal review by superiors.
- Self-starter mentality with a proven implementation record of creative technology solutions that advanced business.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; exceptional interpersonal and analytical skills.
- Proven ability to build trust, listen, and ask effective questions.
- Proven track record of effective project leadership and positive results.
- Ability to self-manage time and priorities.
- Experience with Data Lake architecture, big data technologies, and tools.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of pharmaceutical and healthcare business; utilize knowledge in rapid advancement of agile, impactful, and cost-effective solutions.
- Experience working with Market Access organization is a plus.
- Strong understanding of data management disciplines including Data Warehousing, Data Integration, Data Visualization, Advanced Analytics, Big Data Platforms/Elastic Scale, Artificial Intelligence, and other data-centric technologies.
Preferred:
- Experience working with patient-level data like SHA PTD, IMS APLD, and plan formulary data like MMIT.
