Sr. Business Development Manager

About the role
O’Melveny has an immediate opening for a Senior Business Development Manager (Transactions) in our New York office. The actual compensation offered will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location.
The salary range in New York for this role is $175,000 - $215,000.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with practice and industry group and client team leaders on the development and execution of business development strategy and implementation of related goals and initiatives.
- Proactively identify business development opportunities, coordinate attorney teams to pitch new business, and drive such opportunities from concept to execution.
- Draft pitches, RFP responses, presentations, talking points, and background briefing materials.
- Prepare submissions to rankings, directories, and other publications and contests.
- Create marketing materials including collaterals, website content, and one-off pieces to support business development efforts.
- Coordinate and participate in practice and industry group and client team meetings.
- Collaborate with other Client Development team members to identify opportunities for cross-marketing.
- Gather intelligence on firm clients/targets and market trends to provide practice and industry group attorneys with an understanding of the competitive landscape and to position the firm for increased effectiveness in winning new business.
- Plan and implement client meetings and events, including webinars and in-person events.
- Provide internal training and coaching to partners on business development skills.
- Develop and manage practice and industry group business development budgets.
- Support the recruiting and integration of laterals.
- Coordinate with the Communications team on PR opportunities.
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 to 10 years of experience in a marketing and/or business development-related position in a professional services environment; law firm experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of corporate/transactional practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multitask.
- Highly customer service-oriented and responsive, technologically savvy, organized, and meticulous.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to anticipate needs and next steps.
- Demonstrated good judgment in a multiple leader, team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in a marketing, business, or communications-related field is highly preferred, as is an advanced degree.
